When I press backspace, 2.0 doesn't go back, but scrolls the page up. Is there a way to change that?

Good call. I had been wondering that myself.

The one thing I really hate about 2.0 is that you (me?) cant just click the down arrow on the address bar and click a previous visited site and it just go there. I seem to have to click enter after that or that little go button thing I've always hated.

EDIT: Seems to be problem caused by TabBrowser Preferences.

I'm very happy with Firefox 2.0. It seems much more stable (although that could be caused by the fact that I had to/could get rid of a load of extensions). I does no longer crash on startup, hang when a lot of tabs are opened at the same time or when there's Flash on a website (AMD64 version with nspluginwrapper and netscape-flash).

One thing I'm not happy with: font size has shrunken to almost illegible levels. My Linux-Firefox used to have smaller fonts than the Windows-version, but I was fine with that. Now with 2.0 it's gone to the point that I have to increase the font size before I can read it.

Here's a pic so you can see for yourself:

Personally I set the minimum font size at 11 and force all websites to use my fonts, problem solved!

That's weird, because my font's aren't that small. Anyone else seeing this?

Well, I'm currently doing this in Firefox 1.5 (I'm going to wait till 2.0 becomes stable ), and that causes a lot of sites to become unreadable... then again, I increase the font size to about 16 though!

Not a solution as this destroys the look of most websites.

Funny, I started doing this years ago and I've never noticed a site that looks bad.

I would not characterize having such a low awareness as "funny".

Has anybody a real solution to this problem ?

I have also 2 others problems with Firefox 2 :
  • the font size of the menus, the contextual menus, ... are too small.
I know I can use an utility like gtk-chtheme but it will then increase the size of all my gtk applications, which I don't want.
Has anybody a solution to this ?
  • I have some accents problems when clicking on a link in gmail :
    Image
The strange thing is that it only happen when I passed through gmail to go to the forum :?
Is it also a font issue ?
Thanks in advance

I just installed FF2 and I like it.
  • Apparently page rendering is faster.
  • Fonts are "clearer" or better rendered or something (they are a bit smaller though but as long as I have my glasses, that's ok for me)
  • Writing this, I noticed the builtin spell checking feature. Nice too.
  • I'll have to see if improvements in memory usage are really there
  • I didn't suffer the ugly icons I read about in this thread since during startup my noia theme was updated hehe
  • Won't comment on new tab handling yet. So far, everything appears to be the same for me (except for the separate close icons)
Ah, for sake of completeness:
Sat Nov 4 15:53:39 2006 >>> www-client/mozilla-firefox-2.0
merge time: 1 hour, 24 minutes and 3 seconds.
(athlon-xp 2600, 1G RAM) Had some other stuff running during emerge, including mplayer.. But less than half an hour, that's really impressive guys..

That's a web designer problem. Geeze my eyes are too old to read tiny print rendered in one pixel, just so some so called designer can show something flashy to the boss.

I think is a problem with css layout, about:config > change layout.css.dpi to 0.

Another thing, is anyone having problems saving files to vfat partitions? Sometimes my files come empty... and is not a vfat thing with konqueror I don't have this problem.

Add the --tree option to your emerge command so that you can see which ebuild is trying to downgrade firefox (if any). You don't happen to have firefox in a portage overlay somewhere do you?

The answer is in the ebuild: /usr/portage/www-client/epiphany/epiphany-2.14.2.1-r1.ebuild

Code: Select all

firefox? ( =www-client/mozilla-firefox-1* )
That's specifying firefox-1.
