Erm... is it just me, or is the new website incredibly ugly?

And addons.mozilla.org has gotten an incredibly worse and less navigatable.

I don't know... I can't say I like the direction Firefox is taking after MozCo came along... Their new theme reeks of Vista and seems to be a lot harder to adjust now that the Go button is attached to the location bar, etc. (Judging from the PortableApps thing.) (Yes, I realize you can edit it in about:config, but like... it's not all that nice.)

I'll wait to see how it performs on Linux (probably after it is x86ed or nearly so... :)) for a more final judgment, but... I don't like this new direction much.

Seems that Firefox2 has found a lot of inspiration from Opera9.
And that tabscrolling sounds awfull.

I'll stick to Konqueror / Opera.

can this be turned off in FF2? I left my favorite browser (galeon) just because of this very "feature". Man, I might be running of options here... I already hate opera for not letting me drag&drop links onto open tabs.

because its lighter on memory as I use it, unlike before when it would just keep eating memory. Its rendering has picked up some speed as shown by the render test (http://scragz.com/tech/mozilla/test-rendering-time), although its still slower than others. I could finally get rid of session saver extension, which made my prefs.js so huge that it was a nightmare to look at it in vi. New icons look nice.

I prefered that, instead of each tab having a close button, there was just one close button off to the right.

Also, I think I'll just stick with Konqueror as well, although I will install the -bin of this just in case there are some sites that don't like Konqueror.

Has anyone tried to compile Firefox 2 from sources? I wonder.... I can't wait for it to hit Portage either.

It's in portage, just hardmasked. Probably an oversight, I think it should be in ~arch. Anyway, you can unmask it, it works fine for me.

My guess is that it's hardmasked because some other applications may rely on Firefox 1.5. Yet another reason why Firefox should be dumped as a requirement for some packages. Xulrunner would be a better choice. :)

mozilla-firefox and mozilla-firefox-bin are unmasked now!

I'm using mozilla-firefox-bin now and it works perfectly. You may want to set browser.backspace_action in about:config to "0" to make Firefox go back to the previous page on backspace.

you know this breaks the "find" with "/" right? like when you are searching for a string in a page and you accidentally type wrong and hit backspace one extra time. I have been annoyed by it so many times. But then may be I am just not good at typing....;-)

Firefox-bin works great :) I really like the new look of Firefox, and it feels a bit faster than before. I'm very satisfied with it so far

All that is goodness cries out for the new Firefox! Even little Boo, although he cannot cry out quite so loudly.

Am I the only one, who sees this as serious degradation in the rendering speed?
Essentially this 2.0 confirms, what I see on the cvs-version - really slow scrolling and opening of tabs, 1.5.x was a way better at this. I think I'm staying with epiphany built on xulrunner for now - where everything is smooooth :)
[EDIT]
also the test speed rendering page
epiphany (xulrunner-1.5.0.7) ~ 6.5 sec
bon echo (aka 2.0) 15-32 sec
minefeld (20061007 - thebes build) ~ 6.5 (although the gui indeed feels laggy)
also only bon echo seems to fluctuate really much, epiphany and minefeld have constant timings and I have downloaded the test - also it was run locally...
[/EDIT]
