mplayerplug-in doesn't play, just STOPs [SOLVED]

  • Quote

Post by cyberjun » Sun Dec 18, 2005 2:58 pm

Hi,
I have installed mplayerplug-in latest version from portage. From firefox it gets launched properly. It reads the mms:// urls also. However, after that it just sits there doing nothing. The status inside that grey box says "stopped". Even after I select play after rightclicking on it, it does nothing.

What can be the problem. Firefox version is 1.5 (compiled not binary), and mplayerplug-in version is 3.15.

Thanks.

maybe enable or disable caching - some streams cause probs when caching is disabled, some the other way round

Hi,
Thanks for the suggestion, but have tried that. Here is my .mplayer/mplayerplug-in.conf file:

Code: Select all

vo=xv,x11
ao=alsa
cachesize=204
cache-percent=2
dload-dir=/home/halios
enable-wmp=1
enable-qt=1
enable-rm=0
enable-gmp=1
enable-mpeg=1
enable-mp3=1
enable-ogg=1
enable-smil=1
enable-helix=1
nomediacache=1
rtsp-use-tcp=1
debug=1
logfile=/home/halios/.mplayer/mpp.log
noembed=1

any other clues? Its quite bothersome. :(

Hi,
Well for example: http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/theproducers.html

On this page when I click on "Exclusive clip: I want that money", a window opens, then mplayer plugin appears, it says buffering etc. and when it should play the video, it just says stopped.

Code: Select all

vo=xv

cache-percent=10
dload-dir=/home/tom
enable-wmp=1
enable-qt=1
enable-rm=1

what are the USE flags you have enabled. I was having an awful time with getting mplayerplug-in to play wmv.

You should also have emerged the win32codecs package before compiling mplayer and mplayerplug-in.

You should definetely have win32codecs as a USE flag. Then emerge win32codecs package and the remerge both mplayer and mplayerplug-in.

You should probably also have the nsplugin.

Hi,
Here are the USE flag details:

Code: Select all

localhost ~ # ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge -pv mplayer

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild  N    ] app-misc/lirc-0.7.2  +X -debug -doc 484 kB
[ebuild   R   ] media-video/mplayer-1.0_pre7-r1  -3dfx +3dnow +3dnowext +X -aac +aalib +alsa (-altivec) -arts* -bidi -bindist -bl -cdparanoia -cpudetection -custom-cflags -debug -dga +directfb -doc +dts -dv -dvb +dvd +dvdread -edl +encode +esd +fbcon -ggi +gif +gtk -i8x0 +ipv6 -jack -joystick +jpeg +libcaca +lirc* -live -livecd -lzo +mad +matroska* -matrox +mmx +mmxext -mythtv -nas +nls +nvidia +opengl -oss* +png +real -rtc +samba +sdl +sse -sse2 +svga -tga +theora +truetype -v4l -v4l2 +vorbis +win32codecs -xanim -xinerama +xmms +xv +xvid -xvmc 7,621 kB

Total size of downloads: 8,105 kB
localhost ~ # ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge -pv mplayerplug-in

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild   R   ] net-www/mplayerplug-in-3.15  -gecko-sdk +gtk 0 kB

Total size of downloads: 0 kB
The funny thing is that if I provide the URL directly to mplayer on cmdline, it starts playing fine. :( I am soooo lost!!!

This is probably not your problem, but when this was happening to me it was because my audio device was in use. Check to amke sure yours isn't.

so mplayer will play the URL fine and mplayer will also play wmv fine for you? If this is the case then what does

Code: Select all

about:plugins
tell you in firefox. It seems like this may be a firefox problem I've heard that if you have the adblocker enabled in firefox that it can interfere with plugins. If you do try disabling it and also post your about:plugins stuff.

besides that I'm lost too...sorry.

I had this problem a month or so ago and I fixed it but can't remember how. Now it's came back (possibly after a firefox or mplayer compile) and it's got me baffled yet again.

I have exactly this same problem. I noticed that when I right click on the embeded mplayer and selected "configure" I have nothing set in the "Video Output" field. The options I have for this field from the drop down are: gl, x11, xv. Weird. I also had nothing in the "audio output" field, so I selected alsa. I checked my about:plugins and everything looks good. I wonder if the "Video Output" field is the problem? I tried just typing in mplayer, but that did not solve anything.

-- EDIT #1 --
One thing that gets me is that Edit --> Preferences --> Downloads shows nothing in the plugins section. Shouldn't it show the mplayerplug-in etc? about:plugins shows lots of plugins enabled.
---------------

-- EDIT #2 ---
editing .mplayer/mplayerplug-in.conf
vo=gl
ao=arts
gave me video, but no audio. I use alsa for sound so i did not expect any audio, however when I set ao=alsa I get nothing at all. I have also tried vo=xv and vo=x11. I don't even know why xv is an option? It is just a static image viewer is it not? Also what is gl? I don't even seem to have a program called gl.

Hi,
Finally solved!!!. :D Tips:

* If mplayer is not compiled with "live" use flag, then set rtsp-use-tcp=0. My mistake was that I had set this option to 1 and mplayed lacked "live" support. 8O

* Best would be to compile mplayer with "live" use flag and then set rtsp-use-tcp=1.

* Upgrade to the latest mplayerplug-in (3.17)

* My .mplayer/mplayerpulg-in.conf

Code: Select all

cachesize=512
cachepercent=25
autostart=1
vo=xv,x11
ao=alsa
noembed=0
flieonly-embed=1
nopauseonhide=1
osdlevel=1
rtsp-use-tcp=1
showlogo=1
shotime=1
hidestatus=0
dload-dir=/tmp
keep-download=0
cookies=1
noconsolecontrols=1
nomousecontrols=1
enable-wmp=1
enable-qt=1
enable-rm=1
enable-gmp=1
enable-helix=1
enable-mpeg=1
enable-mp3=0
enable-ogg=1
enable-smil=1
I should have visited the mplayerplug-in homepage much earlier!!! :oops:

cheers,

I compiled mplayer with "live" support and even used the sample mplayerplugin config file. I also recompiled mplayerplug-in. I still have the same problem. Is this really all you did to fix it? Could you point me to the location on the mplayer page that mentions this? I looked around and read the FAQ's but didn't find it.

Code: Select all

vo=gl
ao=alsa
cachesize=512
cache-percent=25
dload-dir=/home/dude/
showtime=1
enable-wmp=1
enable-qt=1
enable-rm=1
enable-gmp=1
enable-mpeg=1
enable-mp3=1
enable-ogg=1
enable-midi=0
enable-smil=1
enable-helix=1
nomediacache=0
nopauseonhide=0
rtsp-use-tcp=0
rtsp-use-http=0
Thanks!

I think I have the same problem. The audio clip that I can't play is http://www.sr.se/laddahem/ekot/nyheter/p3eko22.rm. I tried to download the clip to a directory and play it with mplayer. That also failed, and here the console output gave me a hint. After doing

Code: Select all

# cd /opt/RealPlayer/codecs
# ln -s sipr.so sipr.so.6.0
I could play the downloaded clip with mplayer, and it can also be played in the browser plugin. It does not matter if the empty file ~/.mplayer/default.sub which has been mentioned in this thread is present or not.

My package versions are:

seamonkey-1.0.3
realplayer-10.0.7
mplayer-1.0_pre8-r1
mplayerplug-in-3.30
win32codecs-20050216 (irrelevant maybe)

I am not sure where this problem belongs: Gentoo bug, or upstream bug? Opinions?
