Yeah...

Post by Ivanov_Kuznetzvov » Fri Feb 10, 2006 2:02 am

Yeah... finally got around to buying a new 40gb HDD (samsung.. nice 3year OEM warranty) for my laptop, and I'm in the hotseat trying to find good drivers for this mobility. I did the manual config for kernel after copying the results of lspci and lsmod into a notepad window open on another computer by hand. At the moment, I'm compiling the kernel. If I have anything useful to report, I'll do so tonight or tomorrow...

Good suggestion, but not everyone has the money to get another graphics card.
Or then can't switch (like I, who have ATI in my laptop).

I'm now using gentoo-sources 2.6.15-r1 (vanilla 2.6.16-r2 before) and i can load fglrx again. And with the new ati-driver 8.22.5 X-server doesn't freeze while shutting down or using 3D-acceleration.

Just a view on the black screen when exiting X with ATI:

I have an ATI 9800 pro, and i kept getting black screen on exit from xorg, i fixed it by making sure my pci->agp bridge was built as a module

then before i start X (module autoload) i load modules in this order:
agpgart
intel_agp <--- If i leave this out x crashes on exit
fglrx

I also use the latest ati drivers by using the keyword "~x86", the *stable* ones don't work at all.
Everything works perfect.

different tv-out problem

Post by kevintshaver » Tue Feb 14, 2006 3:22 am

I'm using an ATI AIW9800 Pro card and trying to get tv-out to work smoothly. I think it's pretty close. Right now if I startx (automatically starts gnome), the display is perfect from the vga output and everything works fine. With the TV-OUT (S-Video), a gnome screen displays but none of the open programs visible on the VGA output can be seen and there is no mouse/keyboard control. Both displays are gong to the same Samsung TV, just through different inputs. I want to do this due to PIP restrictions on the PC inputs. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi!
I have tried to get direct rendering to work on my Radeon 9800Pro. Using kernel 2.6.15.
Can load fglrx and everyting seem to work fine.

But glxgears gives me only 150 fps...

My xorg logg says

Code: Select all

(WW) fglrx(0): ***********************************************
(WW) fglrx(0): * DRI initialization failed! *
(WW) fglrx(0): * (maybe driver kernel module missing or bad) *
(WW) fglrx(0): * 2D acceleraton available (MMIO) *
(WW) fglrx(0): * no 3D acceleration available *
(WW) fglrx(0): *********************************************
How do I solve that?
