And also, what's with this being a .2 but the ebuild being a .1?
It should be .2 ->

Code: Select all

Did you played too much or what? :D

If not a problem, can you add a sk98lin patch for this release?

sk98lin patch?

Code: Select all

Generic Driver Options  --->
    [*] Network device support
        Ethernet (1000 Mbit)  --->
<M> Marvell Yukon Chipset / SysKonnect SK-98xx Support
That does the trick for me.

The driver included in this kernel doesn't support my Marvell 88E8053,
But 2.6.12-nitro5 works well...

Eventually I end up having booting problem, but I can't figure out how to log the error message, so I can't paste it here. When coldpluging pci devices, it fails and says something like "in modules : nividia", even if said module isn't loaded. It also says somewhere something like PREEMPT SMP . Does it have anything to do with smp and the fact that I made the kernel preemptible?
I'd add that the configuration is the same than the one for 2.6.13.1-nitro1, which works well.

The link for the ebuild on the first page does not work. By the same errors I meant I still get the identical errors from the previous testing thread where I had nvidia agp problems. The reason they are the same is because it downloaded the exact same thing since the version numbers were not correct.
Obstacles do not exist to be surrendered to, but only to be broken.

I dont know why but for me didnt work any of the 13-based kernel,, now have 2.6.12.nitro5 and works fine

tryed to copy my old best .config to new 13th kernel, but every time during boot it hangs on some bad interupt
(this .config is from my curent running kernel and its best I ever have)

something like :

Code: Select all

.....
hda IRQ probe failed
......
......
hda: lost interupt

hda is one of the cdroms I have (DVD or CDRW, dont know now)
any 13based kernel do the same, ck, nitro, givid, vivid

I tryed to configure with plain config, didnt work,,,
I have noticed taht the 13th kernel has smaler bzimage (12th - 2.3MB, 13th - 2.1MB)
Arch & Fluxbox & 2.6.24-rc-zen!!!!

Couple of comments/complaints:

1) New menuconfig colors - ewwww! How can I change them back?
2) What happened to that very handy, helpful, obvious Nitro Menu from 2.6.12-nitro5?
3) Standard Layer7 patches against it don't work once again :(

1)
- Download 14_menucolors
- cd /usr/src/linux
- patch -p1 -R < /path/to/14_menucolors
- make menuconfig (and you have your old colors back)

2) I don't have that Nitro_menu patch, and I was too lazy to do it myself. Maybe next time.

3) What are those Layer7 patches, and where can I find them?

Link to the ebuild on the first page is fixed, so it should download the right patch now. I don't now what caused the nvidia-agp problem, but I hope it's gone in 2.6.13.2-nitro1.

If you have "software suspend" AND "software suspend 2" enabled, disable "software suspend". If that doesn't work, disable "software suspend 2" as well.

kernel compiled and works perfectly fine for me...
I tried to use the nitro logo, but the compilation process craps out with the same errors everyone else posts here....

Other than that, I had a few stupid errors on my end, but those were solved after a 2nd reboot :)

thanks for the new patchset seppe!

HOW TO MAKE THE PATCH
1) go to your unpatched linux-2.6.13.2-nitro1 directory and clean it:

Code: Select all

cd /usr/src/linux-2.6.13.2-nitro1
make clean ; make mrproper
2) copy your clean linux-2.6.13.2-nitro1 tree to a directory like this:

Code: Select all

cd /usr/src/
cp -rf linux-2.6.13.2-nitro1 linux-2.6.13.2-nitro1b
cd linux-2.6.13.2-nitro1b
3) do your changes in the code (in /usr/src/linux-2.6.13.2-nitro1b) to make it work on your amd64
4) make the patch:

Code: Select all

cd /usr/src
diff -Nuar linux-2.6.13.2-nitro1 linux-2.6.13.2-nitro1b > fix_2.6.13.2-nitro1_amd64_oops
5) Upload the patch "fix_2.6.13.2-nitro1_amd64_oops" (which you can find in /usr/src) somewhere and post the link here ;)

the nitro menu was really usefull, but thats not a "i cant live without" feature.

For now, it runs completely stable (tested with number crunching with prime and normal workload),..

thanks for your work seppe. Let me know if i can help somehow except of testing your releases ;)
