For iso-codes, I have updated the dependency to pyxml-0.8.4 as well. I haven't looked at the Thunderbird problem, as well, I've yet to get any version above 1.0.2 to save my rules properly on exiting.

Stable for now with -mozsvg, no more ;-)

And stable here too, even if no mozsvg flag the rebuild did it good.

gtkhtml2 module for gnochm viewer

  • Quote

Post by ARealNoobOne » Sat Aug 06, 2005 1:34 am

I use gnochm to view .chm files.

gnochm needs the gtkhtml2 module, which is in gnome-python-extras.

The overlay has dev-python/gnome-python-extras-2.11.3, with dependancies:

RDEPEND=">=dev-lang/python-2.3
>=x11-libs/gtk+-2.4.0
>=dev-libs/glib-2.6.0
>=dev-python/gnome-python-2.10.0
>=dev-python/pygtk-2.4.0
>=gnome-extra/libgtkhtml-2.3.1
>=gnome-base/libgnomeprint-2.2.0
>=gnome-base/libgnomeprintui-2.2.0
>=x11-libs/gtksourceview-1.1.90
>=gnome-base/gnome-panel-2.2.0
>=x11-libs/libwnck-2.9.92
firefox? ( >=www-client/mozilla-firefox-1.0 )
mozilla? ( >=www-client/mozilla-1.2 )
>=gnome-base/libgtop-2.9.5
>=gnome-extra/nautilus-cd-burner-2.9.4
>=app-text/gtkspell-2.0.0
media-video/totem
"

The last 2 deps drag a whole bunch of new packages:

[ebuild N ] app-text/gtkspell-2.0.11 -doc 339 kB
[ebuild N ] dev-libs/iso-codes-0.47 -debug 3,597 kB [3]
[ebuild N ] media-libs/musicbrainz-2.1.1-r1 515 kB
[ebuild N ] media-plugins/gst-plugins-ffmpeg-0.8.5 1,838 kB
[ebuild N ] media-plugins/gst-plugins-pango-0.8.10 0 kB
[ebuild N ] media-libs/libmpeg2-0.4.0b +X -sdl 0 kB
[ebuild N ] media-plugins/gst-plugins-mpeg2dec-0.8.10 0 kB
[ebuild N ] media-plugins/gst-plugins-dvdread-0.8.10 0 kB
[ebuild N ] media-plugins/gst-plugins-xvideo-0.8.10 0 kB
[ebuild N ] media-libs/a52dec-0.7.4-r5 -djbfft -oss 0 kB
[ebuild N ] media-plugins/gst-plugins-a52dec-0.8.10 0 kB
[ebuild N ] media-video/totem-1.1.3 -a52 -debug +dvd -flac +gnome -lirc -mad +mpeg +ogg -theora +vorbis -win32codecs -xine +xv 1,567 kB [3]

If I comment them then i just get what I need : no additional packages get merged, emerge runs fine and build the gtkhtml2 python module for gnochm.

=> May be these last 2 deps should be conditonned by USE flags, the standard 'spell' and (package specific for now) 'totem' ?

BTW gtkhtml2 used to be in gnome-python, but the README file tells that at some point it was moved in gnome-python-extras. Of course I didn't RTFM and repeatedly tried to rebuild gnome-python, before noticing something was weird.

=> May be a clear warning could be output in gnome-python about this ?

I mean that in old package autoconf issued 2 clear messages 'packages that will be built' (libgnome, libgnome.ui, etc) and 'packages that will not be built', so you noticed quite fast the need forl gtkhtml use flag.

In new package there is just no message ('packages that will not be built' is empty).

Sure it is more an autoconf pb in gnome-python, but ebuild can be a place for an epatch line too...

In gal ebuild (gnome-extra/gal/gal-2.5.3.ebuild) remove line:

Works for me (I have -doc in my USE)

I also use gnochm. The gtkspell/totem problem was debated when 2.10's ebuilds were put into portage, and the only real way to enable a flag, is to patch the configure[.ac] file[s]. If you wanna email me a patch, by all means I will do it. I realize that the gtkspell and totem aren't necessary for most people, but some people do want them in there, unfortunately.

The configure script has the text in there, I am not sure why it isn't printing which modules will and won't be built.

You are very welcome. I am glad people are trying them out.

Don't cry! Gaim is one of those apps that is finicky when you change gtk+ versions on it. Re-emerge it, and it should work fine (I've been using gaim for quite a bit, no problems here other than my craptastical dialup connection) Some people have to re-emerge it, some don't. Seems you are one of the unfortunate ones that does :(

About Cairo+glitz rendering backend:

The http://www.freedesktop.org/Software/glitz page gives link http://www.cs.umu.se/~c99drn to the cairogears applications, to test cairo+glitz.

Sadly both cairogears and cairogear-cvs tarball are seriously outdated :-(

Maybe a cairogears-cvs ebuild (a la e17 live cvs checkout) would be good addition ?

(Sorry CVS/SVN checkout is OK for me but I really must learn how to make an ebuild. Will have a look at the e17 ones, seems the better place for CVS ebuilds)

If you want to write the ebuild for it, ill be willing to test it out, but as this is a Gnome 2.12 beta overlay, it mainly focuses on the requirements for Gnome 2.12, and I don't have the time to search down test applets.

I have a new quandry currently, the latest gnome-applets (2.11.91) has been released, and I'm not sure it requires it, but I know that it can use libnotify/notification-daemon. I have svn ebuilds for it, however, I would be willing to post up snapshots of them, if it is a requirement, so someone please test it and let me know?

Code: Select all

my service is started and I create a directory device.d in /etc/hal and after, I make a link

Code: Select all

60-pmount.hal -> /usr/bin/pmount-hal
but when I boot, no entries for my cdrom, dvdrw and usbstick, but gvm see it but said

I have a few ideas, firstly, pmount doesn't create devices. that is handled by udev/devfs (please use udev, devfs is getting deprecated and 2.6.13 it will be completely removed). As to mounting, well, that looks like you got a bad sync from me as I was working on the packages. Please update your hal ebuilds. hal 0.5.3 has problems, and has been pulled from the overlay (doesn't compile on amd64 - 0.5.4 does, however it is a cvs snapshot) Apparently, for mounting CDs and DVDs, --retain-privileges needs to be passed to hald, so I have updated the init.d script in the overlay. So, either grab the new tarballs, and (hopefully) I have it working correctly. Please let me know if it doesn't. You might want to re-emerge gnome-volume-manager as well.

Also, the point of pmount is to not use fstab, though cd drives i believe ARE supposed to be in there.

Had the same issue.
Just copy (or link) nautilus-2.11.90-icon_view_gst.patch, then regenerate digest (or merge with FEATURES="-strict").

pb with ebuild of libnotify-0.2.1

Ooops... pb with libnotify

Code: Select all

root@panther incoming # emerge sys-apps/notification-daemon
Calculating dependencies ...done!
>>> emerge (1 of 2) dev-libs/libnotify-0.2.1 to /
>>> md5 files   ;-) libnotify-0.2.1.ebuild

!!! ERROR: dev-libs/libnotify-0.2.1 failed.
!!! Function econf, Line 488, Exitcode 1
!!! no configure script found
!!! If you need support, post the topmost build error, NOT this status message.
The pb is with {S} not pointing to the right place in src_compile. "ebuild compile" completes if I hardcode the path:

Code: Select all

src_compile() {
    #cd ${S}
    cd /var/tmp/portage/libnotify-0.2.1/work/libnotify-0.2.1
    econf ${config} || die "econf failed"
    emake || die "make failed"
}
But then "ebuild install" fails:

Code: Select all

root@panther portage # FEATURES="-strict" ebuild /usr/local/gnome-2.11-overlay/dev-libs/libnotify/libnotify-0.2.1.ebuild install
>>> md5 src_uri ;-) libnotify-0.2.1.tar.gz
>>> Checking libnotify-0.2.1.tar.gz's mtime...
>>> WORKDIR is up-to-date, keeping...
>>> It appears that libnotify is already compiled; skipping.
>>> (clean to force compilation)
>>> Test phase [not enabled]: dev-libs/libnotify-0.2.1

>>> Install libnotify-0.2.1 into /var/tmp/portage/libnotify-0.2.1/image/ category dev-libs
make: *** No rule to make target `install'. Stop.

!!! ERROR: dev-libs/libnotify-0.2.1 failed.
!!! Function src_install, Line 36, Exitcode 2
!!! make install failed
!!! If you need support, post the topmost build error, NOT this status message.
Sorry, I'm not an ebuild expert (yet ;-). Things go smoothly when using "./configure make make install" so it's really an ebuild issue...

ARealNoobOne,

As Breakmygentoo, my solution is to comment out the patch line in the ebuild. :o

Code: Select all

# use gstreamer for audio preview (patch by <foser@gentoo.org>)
#use gstreamer && epatch ${FILESDIR}/${P}-icon_view_gst.patch

This is a bit off topic, but does anyone know if there's finally an integrated composite manager in Gnome 2.12? There isn't one in 2.10 at least (or I couldn't find it), yet most of the pictures of Gnome 2.12 seem to have dropshadows. It would be odd if it's just xcompmgr.
