Feature Request: Do not search [code] fragments

It would be really nice to be able to search for a string and not include any text between the [ quote ] or the [ code ] fragments. Might help to get a search result dealing with that particular item and not other items that have a cut and paste of a person's dmesg output.

Do you have an example of what you are talking about? I don't understand.

Have you tried grep with a regex?

This is not possible, the way that the search works is that individual words are indexed, but there is no context associated with these words, so the search has no way of knowing if a word is contained within

Code: Select all

 or [quote] blocks.

I'm talking about the forums search. When people copy dmesg output and paste it into a forum topic it creates a lot of false hits when performing a search. For instance, try searching for the string "ACPI" in the quick search in the upper right. You get a lot of topics that don't have anything to do with ACPI, but just happened to have that string in the [ code ] fragment that was pasted into forum message. I think a subject only search would help, but I don't see an option for that.

Is "Gentoo Forums Feedback" the right place to post forum suggestions?

I would very much NOT want that. If you search for an error message then that would remove essentially ALL posts I want returned since errormessages often (and should be) gets posted in

Code: Select all
