just grad the ebuild and ebuild morph.ebuild digest will do the rest for you. there're sourceforge rules, i guess, you don't have to link the file directly.

No problem with that. I have digest in my make.conf turned on. The issues i have with that is on one hand i have my distfiles on a extra computer (my server, an old k6-2) with a 10MBit connection, so digesting the linux-2.###.tar.bz2 takes some time. This time could be spared if the digest was included in an archive i could download from the morph-download page/sourceforge.
there're sourceforge rules, i guess, you don't have to link the file directly.
Of course, that was not my point(i did not make it clear enough). I think it means more "stress" to the sourceforge server to serve 2 download requests than one, and when downloading 2 files (the ebuild and the patch) from sourceforge, the "stress" is greater as when i download just one file, let's say a tar that contains the ebuild and the patch. The main patch and the ebuild belong together, and may be delivered together.

I hope my writing can be understood better.

Reiser4 static version on /boot

Post by Zentoo » Fri Apr 08, 2005 5:57 pm

Still happy with morph-sources that i use mainly for reiser4 up2date support.

But i've crash my /usr partition five days ago... i've fix it by copy /usr from a live cd that i'm trying to build and finally recompile all the pkgs... (>700 !!!)

I've crash it after have try to fsck a reiser4 partition with old reiser4 utilities from a reiser4 enabled live cd...
So it's possible to have some problems using old reiser4 fsck with new patchset...

So that's my question: how could i compile reiser4 utilities in static mode and put it on my /boot partition to be sure i could reach it in case i need to fsck some partitions ?

Emerge reiser4progs with the "static" USE flag turned on. It is indeed very useful to compile such stuff statically, I have a small (~1GB) minimal Ubuntu install for emergency cases on which I copied the reiser4 binaries.

:P

Thanx yardbird... i just compiled reiser4progs staticly and copy its binary on my boot partition to access it in case of emergency from a live CD... That's great...
I'm trying to make my own live CD and i think you're idea to have a small 1GB type partition with a functionnal linux in case of emergency is really great. So i should try to test the live CD on a separate partition to use as an emergency system. Thanx for the idea too :)

Thanks for the report, I'll apply it to next morph.

Sorry for being quite silent lately, unfortunately our ADSL modem died some days ago and so I can use the net only from work. -morph7 has been ready for a while but because of this never got to post it. I'll try to do it today.

Sorry guys for not posting earlier....

The damn customer care has not replaced my ADSL modem yet :x This is what you get when you buy from cheap brands...

I hope the modem will be back for the end of the week. I've kept hacking on morph-sources but never managed to post an updated version (you know, posting all the stuff, the extra-patches, the Changelog, the announcement... it takes its time). Plus I'm quite busy at work and with the modem dead also my computing spare time died.

I hope to be able to upload a new version of morph-sources in a few days... see you then :D

I found it that night. With ssuspend2 disabled, the module wont compile, so i tested it with swsusp2 as module enable and the ipw2200 module works.

This suggests that you enabled the Suspend Userspace User Interface
 support (CONFIG_SOFTWARE_SUSPEND_USERSPACE_UI). You probably weren't
after this if you're just trying to get things running. You can
either compile it out, or set "ProcSetting disable_userui_support 1"
in hibernate.conf (hopefully you have text mode support compiled in
 too!)

 Bernard.

howdy yardbird.

looks like i'll be running your patchset once again.

it seems that the other patchsets are either too new, or dying like Love and Nitro. Nitro is going TOO stable so my fav patches certainly wont be in, and Love has no maintainter and I think they're ripping out all the stuff I came to like from it.

So i think i'll go back to where its comfy again and use your work.

So tell me -- i see you have Staircase and Nicksched cpu schedulers in. I have been using Nicksched in Love but i have been told that it is better for server environments. It seemed to work great for me, but maybe they were right. How is Staircase right now? I think i'll give it a try.

Well, i'll drop of my impressions of it when I get around to using it for a few days.

Later!

Indeed, welcome back!
Thanks guys :D

As for those of you having problems with ipfw, I remember seeing a post in this thread in which there was a link to a Bugzilla entry with an updated ebuild to solve compatibility problems with swsusp2. It solved the problem for at least one person.

Feld: staircase is working very fine here, in morph there is the latest version from Con Kolivas (11.1). The only way to answer your question is to try it out

Is that the problem with suspend_userui? Have you tried the suggestion from Ahorn above? I can't add swsusp2 2.1.8.5, since it is only for 2.6.12-rc1. Sorry :(
