ioctl32 error with ati-drivers on 2.6.11 kernel [solved]

  • Quote

Post by Reformist » Wed Mar 23, 2005 9:26 am

From research around google, it seems there was a problem introduced into 2.6.10-2 kernels for amd64 that prevent the ati-drivers from loading.

I'm running 2.6.11 and get the following:
FATAL: Error inserting fglrx (/lib/modules/2.6.11/video/fglrx.ko): No such device
dmesg reports:
...
Trying to register duplicated ioctl32 handler c0246400
[fglrx:firegl_init_32compat_ioctls] *ERROR* unable to register ioctl32 0
[fglrx:firegl_init] *ERROR* Couldn't register compat32 ioctls!
I'm fairly confident I have everything configured correctly. The above error occurs with ati-drivers 8.8.25 and and 8.10.19. Anyone know a workaround, or the nature of the break, or when it will be fixed?

do you have ia32 emulation enabled in your kernel?

make sure you disable IOMMU support and enable agp gart. then remerge the driver, load the modules and it should work.

Thank you Swatinem. The agpgart option in my kernel was marked "--", not letting me enable or disable it. I had read that it was "automatically built in" to later kernels for amd64, which doesn't make much sense, and seems to have been wrong. I didn't have iommu disabled. The connection between iommu and agpgart is not intuitive, and should probably be better documented (in the kernel; it already is, in the howto you provided).

Also remember to modprobe amd64_agp if you have it as a module, or fglrx won't be able to init agp.

Thanks guys.
