vlc 0.8.1 now in portage

  • Quote

Post by ChrisWhite » Sat Jan 08, 2005 5:51 am

Boy, I'm going to regret this.

Ok folks, I just tossed vlc 0.8.1 into portage. Save a nice MOZILLA_CONFIG error I had to fix on the way, it should be dandy. Test away as I plan to make it stable.

I get the following error when trying to build :

It means that the mozilla plugin does not compile. If you don't use it, just type in:

Code: Select all

USE="-mozilla" emerge vlc

@ChrisWhite:
Except for the mozilla plugins, which I was not using anyway, everything seems to work flawlessly. I haven't tested everything yet but rest assured that I will share my feedback if anything shows up.

Thanks for this great job. :wink:

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Audio does not work here. When I play a DVD, I get:

Is everyone here on the same mozilla (1.7.5?), and somehow everyone that gets these errors pastes them in a language I don't know :P. LC_ALL=C LANG=C emerge vlc next time, otherwise I'll have no idea what the error is :P.

I get the error below because the configure script hard codes XPIDL to /usr/lib/mozilla/xpidl (which does not exist) if it is not called --with-mozilla-sdk-path

Suggest the ebuild file is patched to massage the configure script so that is looks for xpidl in /usr/bin/xpidl for mozilla

symlink /usr/lib/xpidl -> /usr/bin/xpidl for a quick fix

BTW: the equivalent file for Firefox and Thunderbird is in /usr/lib/MozillaFirefox and /usr/lib/MozillaThunderbird

Yah, it was an "I don't know where I'm looking for xpidl" issue :). I just fixed it now with some quick sed-ing and the update is in portage. Things should build :P. (ps. by now, I mean JUST now, so it'll take a while to hit the tree).

Not directly related to v0.8.1, but is anyone else able to run vlc in fullscreen? Fullscreen works fine in other programs like mplayer and xine, but vlc crashes :\

No problem here. However, there's may be an issue about your Xvideo extension. I've helped out a guy on this issue. Just to be sure, you can turn their use off and check if it's related. Just choose a different video setting under vlc (parameter>preferences>general settings>video>video output module>X11 video output)

Looks like the only video module that will work in fullscreen is SDL, I tried experimenting a little earlier, but only with a few different options. Maybe a CFLAGS issue?

@k4hlid:
Do you need the VLC plugin for Mozilla/Firefox?
If you don't, just type in:

Code: Select all

USE="-mozilla" emerge vlc
If you do, post the error message (I guess it's related to the LD_LIBRARY_PATH).

@():
SDL is using XVideo extension for fullscreen if resources are available. The library falls back to normal X11 access if it can't. Threre are also other video output module that should work properly in fullscreen in case your XVideo extension does not work. The OpenGL one is pretty slick and don't interfere to much with XComposite (interesting feature for thus who like drop shadow or trasparency features).

the same thing happens even with -mozilla
i had a good look at the output and it also says HAL library missing, Xinerama present but cannot be compiled, and not building roku HD1000 compatible video output
and then right at the end

I have gotten the same thing. I have even tried to install regular mozilla and it's still like that.

From my other post:

It appears there's a bug in the ebuild:

Code: Select all

use mozilla && \
sed -e "s:^XPIDL = .*:XPIDL = /usr/bin/xpidl:" -i mozilla/Makefile \
|| die "could not fix XPIDL path"
When `use mozilla` returns non-zero, this will always execute `die "could not fix XPIDL path"`. Better to be sure about operator precedence. Here's my fix (tested with -mozilla):

Code: Select all

if use mozilla ;  then
    if ! sed -e "s:^XPIDL = .*:XPIDL = /usr/bin/xpidl:" -i mozilla/Makefile
    then
        die "could not fix XPIDL path"
    fi

Ok I got vlc to merge finally. I was trying to use the mozilla flag to make the vlc plugin, and it still failed because of the ebuild bug. replaced the text from the last post and it worked.

Thanks!

Arg, sorry guys, some of the sed application logic was b0rk3d, but luckyduck (another media-video dev) helped fix that up real quick. As far as ffmpeg goes, please give me what version of ffmpeg you guys are using, I think there's something occuring of a similiar nature and I'd like to see if I can bring it together.
