It looks like devs for other programs also hates gentoo,
I've read this today when I emerged gaim:

Code: Select all

If you experience problems with gaim, file them as bugs with
Gentoo's bugzilla, http://bugs.gentoo.org. DO NOT report them
as bugs with gaim's sourceforge tracker, and by all means DO NOT
seek help in #gaim.
But at least we are warned for gaim.

Maybe we need a graphical installer and a nice binary server for portage. So that the guy who don't want to compile can use portage and gentoo too :)

Fuck this.

I see this as a rascist statement from yosh.
This is no better than a "I hate all blacks coz they can dance" - statement.
Judging a person after the distro he is using makes me sick....

Parn did nothing to deserve this treatment, NOTHING.

What if all of us take this tone to gentoo newbies out there!
Fuck you, you dont know how to make you own fstab - I ban you for a week!

Its no different to:
Fuck you, you dont have a faster distro than I have - I ban you for a week!

WTF, c-mon people - yosh is scum!

Maybe this guy should use Debian then.

I just got glined from gnome's irc telling good old "yosh" he needs to get some help.

Good thing irc.gnome.org is just about useless! ;)

Great plan. How about we sent out waves of thirteen-year-olds* (maturity wise) to harass anybody who says anything bad about gentoo or a gentoo user. That will make the rest of the internet love Gentoo.

Seriously. Yosh made it very clear in the original IRC chat that he is not interesting hearing about how wonderful Gentoo is. Leave him alone.

*I hereby preemtively apologize for accusing you of acting like a thirteen-year-old. Not that I think I am wrong, but I am apolgizing for not taking the time to think of a more nuanced way to say the same thing. Besides, the American public just decided that we don't do nuance, so who am I to disagree?

I dont see it as being provocative. He just didnt bow his head for the ops.

short version for the lazy :

Code: Select all

A-holes: gentoo sucks.
Victim: no I think its fast.
A-holes: Debian rox.
Victim: I get better speed in gentoo than Debian.
A-holes: You must die for spoken the forbidden words.

I didn't say anything about Gentoo.

I told the guy he needs to get help, he has a very bad attitude. Honestly, I'm all for harassing the hell out of the guy... he's a dick.

On a side note: After evaluating Gentoo's performance vs. other distros, I have never found a significant performance gain. I use gentoo because I like the ports-style software management and the configure/tweak-ability.

I use regression tested CFLAGS (cf. my big acovea thread), so my Gentoo installation is rock-stable.

I guess I should have noted: I have never found Gentoo to be inherently less stable because of any compiler flags. :)

Nice to see you so positively contributing to the cause. Nice job, I'm sure it helped.

I haven't contributed to any cause online, other than harassing dick heads like yosh.

It's a good thing the Gimp still sucks for most purposes, or that guy might actually be important.

Some Gentoo users may give us a bad name by preaching, but Yosh an Ass!
I used Debian for a long time and switched to Gentoo when it started out, haven't gone back to Debian yet. Have had experience with Debian Devs and lot of them are elitiest pricks.

I haven't ran into anyone calling me a stupid gentoo user yet, but I also use conservative flags pretty much. And it is assured that Gentoo is going to expose bugs in their code more easily than lot of other distro's.

Kind a funny how the internet lets some people act like scum, whereas if you met them in person they would be totally different. I would like to meet Yosh in person. Ya, I would really like to meet him in person.

There would definately be less of you, that's for sure!

Anyway...

Yosh's real name is Manish Singh.

He is a lead maintainer for the GIMP.

I picture this when I think of him:

Ok, maybe I don't want to meet him in person. I think he might eat my foot or even my whole leg.

Maybe this is him: Yosh Link Looks like Chong. Maybe he would be nice for a bag of Dorrito's.

yeah, cuz your CFLAGS are just posted across your virtual shirt or something everywhere you go :D

nice. way to be rediculusly rude (and rascist i might add) by just looking at his name. REGARDLESS of the fact that Yosh's commentary/actions were very harsh, your actions are doing nothing to improve the image of Gentoo users. You can't fight flame with flame and expect anything good to happen. Now, when a user like myself has a problem or wants to deal with people outside of the Gentoo community, my voice won't even be heard because of people like you.

Thanks.

Explain please. :)

It might be cause I don't preach the virtues of gentoo all over either. I like it and also like debian,.... but like gentoo best. Anyway, looks like Yosh is kindof harsh to more than just gentoo users: Harsh Yosh

just kidding around :D the way you said it was kinda funny.. like all gentoo users immediatly announce they are gentoo users and spit their compile flags (FOR MAX PARFRAMANCE) at everyone they meet, thats all.
Anyway, looks like Yosh is kindof harsh to more than just gentoo users: Harsh Yosh
I read that entire thing very carefully. Not once does Yosh come over the top (as he did in the event that started this thread.) Not only that, but the guy who started the fight in that thread was being a total ass, and I completely agree with all the people defending gimp in this situation.

I think it's clear this Manish guy is a dick to everyone OR just comes
off that way when he types. He's also goofier than I previously thought.

It's funny how certain people seem to turn everything into a racial issue. I hate you break this to "You People," but the world will never be politically correct. You can call me a racist honkey hick. I won't complain... I have thicker skin (oh god please, don't turn that into a racial slur).

I love Holier than thou europeans. :)

Nightmare, I also love your desktop. What WM/Theme are you using? Also, what about your GTK2 theme?

Who fucking cares?

You got flamed on the internet- in an IRC channel. Why the hell does this deserve two pages?

Everyone in this thread is stupid, except for me, because I'm not stupid.
