I think I found a bug!

Post by Verted » Wed Jun 30, 2004 8:53 pm

as I said in an earlier post, I was experiencing an error after chrooting. I am not 100%, but it looks as though i have found a bug. I get the following errors after I have done chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash

When trying to put in # env-update it says:
"!!! Invalid token (not "=") is"
"!!! ParseError: Invalid token (not '='): /etc/make.conf: line 6"
"!!! Incorrect multiline literals can cause this. Do not use them.

Is it just me, or does this look like a bug?

How can I get my install to work?:(
Thanks,
-Verted

What does line 6 of your /etc/make.conf say?

Maybe you should check your /etc/make.conf
What did you put in there?

This sounds like an error made by you. Try to check your /etc/make.conf, expecially make sure to give parameters values on a single line, or end a line with a '\' character to write values on more lines.

hmm, I had same error
came from mirrorselect, or was that line 7

because it didn't put the '#' before the comments

If you used mirrorselect as described in the handbook, you should not have messed up make.conf

ah, then the installation manual & quick installation reference are not right 8)

edit: but it was not that hard to fix the problem anyway

What's wrong with

Code: Select all

mirrorselect -a -s4 -o | grep -ve '^Netselect' >> /mnt/gentoo/etc/make.conf
If there is a problem, I'd like it to be fixed rather than expect users to find out their own way out.
It might have been easy for you, but not all users might find a solution so easily.

no, the handbook is right(or at least I take your word), but the QR:
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-x86 ... nstall.xml

just says:

Code: Select all

mirrorselect -a -s4 -o >> /mnt/gentoo/etc/make.conf
and in the x86 installation guide translated in dutch says the same
in that case it puts this in make.conf:
hm, seems i have to do it from memory, since my harddrive on linux comp has died (or at least partially, it starts a loud tick ever 2-3 secs, never happened till gentoo someone knows? but I think it's hardware related anyway, so nm)

the mirrorselect puts 2 lines in, the 2nd is the actual code for selecting the mirror, the first a comment about not supporting ipv6(or I believe that's what it says)
the first line should start with '#'
but it doesnt seem to give the '#', so when you continue install it reads is as code and says it's wrong

FYI, it's actually a bug (#52264) in mirrorselect itself. Output should have been sent to stderr and not stdout.
I'll fix the quick install to reflect the handbook.

BTW, Dutch translations are running a bit late. Sorry about that.
Keep complaining ;-)

gheheh, should start more complaining in dutch part of forums too

but ATM i should first buy a new hd
since it's an old pc 120 should do it 8)
but it wasn't a bug when I first checked it, should watch more often too

perhaps it's normal for dutchmen to get a bit lazy when holidays near

btw, i'm not that long into gentoo, and before that my last linux was 3 years ago, (yes, I admit, it's a lot of 'damn, how did that go')
but do you know what the newest mainboard supported (i mean full supported) by kernel 2.6.7 is? (hey, I'm planning on buying a way too expensive comp)

BUT let's get more on-topic again

Verted, did you have done mirrorselect? and if so, have you tried the '#'
and of course, problem solved? (please say yes, it's time for holiday  )

It is definitely a mirrorselect problem, it puts an IPv6 error remark in the make.conf. It has to be deleted / commented out for the make.conf to work right. I've had that happen to me as well
