I have installed gentoo a few months ago, Mozilla was installed with gnome, I haven't touched it because i use firefox but now, while i'm looking what gnome has in the internet menu, i saw mozilla, launched it and it's pretty much faster(1.5 at least) than firefox(0.8 and 0.9)!!!
It's mozilla 1.6
My Mozilla 1.6 is also faster than Firefox.
Odd, I always thought that firefox was the fastest browser in the Mozilla family.
Now I'm going to unmerge Firefox and use M 1.6 as my default browser
I would do that too but Mozilla also has email and other stuff thrown in and all I really want in a browser is a browser. I use Thunderbird for my mail, and I like it much better that way.

Now after about 10 hours, mozilla still running with 16 taps and seems that it uses less memory than firefox!
It still fast, i like it.
One thing missing, is "Open in Taps"
I like to call them tabs... but whatever floats your boat. Have you tried clicking on links with the middle mouse button? That opens things in tabs in Firefox and Epiphany. However, I haven't used Mozilla for a while so it might or might not work in Mozilla.

What i mean in "Open in Tabs" is that in firefox when you have a directory in your bookmarks you have the option to open all of the links in that directory in one click,
"Open in Tabs" .
That sucks. I've never used that feature myself though. I have a hard enough problem keeping track of what I'm doing on two sites, with my catlike memory. lol Perhaps you should switch back or add some code.
another one here who switched to mozilla from firefox after he found out that all the firefox extensions are actually available for mozill seamonkey too.
Here I am again with what is faster then what. *cough*
Anyway, has anyone tried out mozilla 1.7? I'm guessing it's slower then 1.6 as no one has mentioned it. Atleast it's faster then firefox 0.9.
I haven't found any other information about Mozilla 1.6 being faster then FireFox 0.8 or 0.9.
If anyone is in the mood, you can test your browser speed at this site.

Interesting... I timed Mozilla 1.7 and Firefox 0.9 on slashdot, gentoo.org, and forums.gentoo.org, and firefox won every time.
I tired Mozilla earlier, and it takes more time but seems to wait and load it all at once. I think in reality it is actually fooling your mind. However, it didn't fool mine because I unmerged it and am back in action with Firefox.

I noticed that Mozilla in Knoppix works much more smoothly than Firefox 0.8 in Gentoo. In Firefox, the page jerks up and down when rolling the mouse wheel, or dragging the tool bar. This has never made any sense to me, and I just assumed it must be something to do with the way I've set everything up. In view of what people are saying here, I emerged Mozilla.
I would say Mozilla is ever so slightly smoother than Firefox. It looks like it renders the whole page first, then displays it all at once, rather than Firefox which appears to display the page as each component is downloaded. On my broadband connection this doesn't mean very much, but on a dial-up, no doubt the Firefox way would be much nicer.
Both still aren't smooth enough. It's like trying to play a 3D game at 15fps. Possible, but it makes your eyes hurt.
I've been thinking of going back to Windows just because of this...until I tried Knoqueror. It's as smooth as Internet Explorer in Windows 98. I have run into trouble with compatability on some sites, but it's an altogether nicer browsing experience.
I still think it's some quirk of my setup, because Knoppix+Mozilla and Gentoo+Konqueror work.
