I've just finished to configure my cinergy 1400 and now I can watch TV and record in MPEG format . Lirc is not working: maybe I've make some mistake configuring it.
My configuration is:
- motherboard: ASUS A7N8X, 1G ram
- cpu:Athlon XP 3000+
- video board: ATI Radeon 9000 All-In-Wonder
- kernel: gentoo-sources-2.6.15-r1. DVB configuration is this:
Code: | Device Drivers ---> I2C support
<M> I2C support
<M> I2C device interface
Device Drivers ---> I2C support ---> I2C Algorithms
<M> I2C PCF 8584 interfaces
<> I2C PCA 9564 interfaces
Device Drivers ---> Multimedia devices ---> Video For Linux
<M> Conexant 2388x (bt878 successor) support
<M> DVB Support for cx2388x based TV cards
<*> Build all supported frontends for cx2388x based TV cards
Device Drivers ---> Multimedia devices ---> Digital Video Broadcasting Devices
[*] DVB For Linux
<M> DVB Core Support
<> Conexant CX22700 based (DVB_CX22700)
<> Conexant cx22702 demodulator (OFDM)
|
NOTE: <> means that is included by default, I can't exclude or modularize it.
player: kaffeine-0.7.1
Users must be on group video to use DVB (and v4l) devices.
The dvb frontend module cx88-dvb is not automatically loaded, therefore I've added it to autoloaded modules:
Code: | echo "cx88-dvb" >> /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6
|
After module cx88-dvb is loaded Kaffeine works fine, but there are problems (it hangs) when the channel is crypted and/or there is some problem receiving it. Changing channel is much faster than on XP; also, while on XP channels sometimes glitches (recording is impossible, there are too often errors), with kaffeine recordings are always perfect.
For the configuration of dvb/kaffeine I've used some info from http://www.malex.org/blog/archives/2006/02/digitale-terrestre-su-linux (in italian); I've made a mux configuration file for my zone and saved into
Code: | ~/.kde/share/apps/kaffeine/dvb-t/it-Arba
|
It looks like this (for meaning of fields take a look into other the configuration files in the same directory):
Code: | # MUX DFree
T 594000000 8MHz 3/4 NONE QAM64 8k 1/32 NONE
# MUX Mediaset-2
T 818000000 8MHz 3/4 NONE QAM64 8k 1/32 NONE
# MUX-A Rai
T 602000000 8MHz 3/4 NONE QAM64 8k 1/32 NONE
|
To find frequencies for italian broadcasting I've used info at http://www.dgtvi.it/dgtvi/copertura.aspx.
I've also installed xdtv to try to record analog TV (I have also a LifeView FlyTV Platinum FM ), but without success (for now... ). It claims to work with DVB also, ma it seems to need an external tuning application to work.
Finally, I've also installed tvtime for watching analog tv (kaffeine don't use analog TV). It's a great program and its output quality is grater than xdtv (xdtv doesn't deinterlace output) and maybe I can use to watch digital tv using an external tuner application (dvbtune?) and using the command line option -d.
I'm planning more tests/experiments with all these tv players on weekend. I'm also planning to test vdr, which seems to have a plugin to watch analog tv.
I hope that these information will be useful; I will integrate it as soon as I've more info to share.
Bye. |

This thread is pretty old but I think I should add that the combined S-Video/Composite input of the Terratec Cinergy 1400 DVB-T can be used with a small kernel patch.
See bug 162239. |

And to get lirc working this has to be added to /etc/make.conf before emerging lirc:
Code: | LIRC_DEVICES="devinput" |
This is the /etc/conf.d/lircd:
Code: | # Options to pass to the lircd process
LIRCD_OPTS="-H dev/input -d /dev/input/eventX" (where X is the highest available number) |
And this is an example for the /etc/conf.d/irexec:
Code: | # Options to pass to the irexec process
IREXEC_OPTS="/etc/lircrc"
# User to execute irexec as.
# Warning: Running irexec as root can open security holes
IREXEC_USER="<username_for_the_user_who_wants_to_use_irexec>"
# Use this to disable the warning printed when starting irexec as root
# IREXEC_DISABLE_ROOT_WARNING=yes |
Here's an appropriate /etc/lircd.conf:
Code: | # Please make this file available to others
# by sending it to <lirc@bartelmus.de>
#
# this config file was automatically generated
# using lirc-0.8.0(devinput) on Wed Apr 12 20:57:59 2006

Forgot to mention the kernel configuration which is necessary for lirc:
Code: | [*] Networking support
Networking options --->
<*> IrDA (infrared) subsystem support --->
<*> IrCOMM protocol |
