< sad-panda>
file->open new tab is gone. it was there yesterday but now it is gone.
I absolutely do not want to press control alt shift backspace backspace f10 to open a new terminal tab, i should be able to click the PLUS button that is on the tab bar except, gnome developers removed the "tab bar always visible" option, forcing me to use the file->open new tab menu on the first instance. From then I could click the + icon.
That whole multi key press thing not a viable solution for me, neither is adding obfuscated gobbledygook to some obscure config file in some hidden directory to bring back the previous interface which was NOT BROKEN before but absolutely is now.
I am also of the opinion that the ADA police would have issues with this whole concept. What if I had only one arm and my only hand had only one finger... How would I press that multi hand key sequence? (no i dont have only one hand : )
Pretty much every single decision I see the gnome developers do is aimed at decreasing their own workload at the expense of an interface that was NEVER BROKEN and was absolutely intuitive to use.
How can i have my ability to create more than one tab fixed?

EDIT: P.S. Control shift t does not do anything at all for me, because I deleted all the keyboard shortcuts from gnome-terminal because i do not want it to steal ANY key presses from any application running inside it. I do not use keyboard shortcuts in X or in a terminal, I do not want either one of them stealing those keys.
I can not see any viable way to open a new tab the way I used to do so and basically my opinion is that this is because SOMEONE made an executive decision to remove options without thinking of or caring about the consequences of their actions. (not gentoo devs, gnome devs) |

I really would like to solve this? i really do not understand why the menu item to OPEN a new tab was removed but the one to close a tab is still in there? How do I get my open new tab menu item back? |

../gnome-terminal-3.44.1/src/terminal-screen.cc:635:19: error: ‘VteTerminalClass’ {aka ‘struct _VteT
erminalClass’} has no member named ‘shell_precmd’
635 | terminal_class->shell_precmd = terminal_screen_shell_precmd
I have seen posts dating back quite some time about how gnome devs merged the open new tab and open new terminal menu items into a single item and that there is now a configuration item to select if a new terminal should open in a tab or a new window. That configuration item does not exist in gnome-terminal-3.54.3 so there is literally no way for me to open any new tabs. I do not ever use keyboard shortcuts for reasons already stated.
I would like to be able to downgrade my gnome-terminal to a version that still allows me to open TABS instead of new windows but the build fails with the above error :/
tried a different ebuild and now have the dang menu item back. this really needs to be fixed so that the newer versions of gnome-terminal have some way to open a new tab by means other than keyboard shortcuts. |

I can see the plus button that opens new tabs https://postimg.cc/3WGx4k3M

It looks like this is something with configuration on your machine

Where? how?
Until recently I had both the menu item and the + symbol in the tab bar if it was more than one tab open. With only one tab open the tab bar is no longer visible so the + button is not available. After successfully downgrading I have both the menu item and the tab bar + back |

Try testing under a newly created user account to ensure the UI appears without any customizations or prior tweaks |

upgraded back to the latest gnome-terminal and did a depclean to remove as much as possible of the lower version.
created a new user and logged out of my main user entirely and logged in as new user
started X and launched gnome-terminal with no tweaks or edits made to its config.
No menu item to open a new tab and no tab bar visible with only one "tab" open so no + available to me. |
