diff ~/etc-actual ~/etc-intended | less

Another problem you are going to run in to... the prototypes for push and pop both say they take an array of integers or a pointer to an integer as a first argument, but the actual definitions of the functions don't. You should settle on whether they will take arrays or pointers as parameters, and ...

Review of/Gentoo install on Dell Inspiron e1405

I've written a review of the Dell Inspiron e1405 on my website. It's a very nice Core 2 Duo laptop that runs Gentoo pretty well, and is amazingly fast.

Command-line newsreader / Tutorial for slrn?

I'm an avid user of mutt, and I'm looking for something similar for reading and posting to Usenet. slrn appears to be a capable program, but, like mutt, it requires a surrounding set of programs (like slrnpull) to make it work like a pre-configured "desktop" news reader. Does anyone know of a good ...

I think that some sort of such a system would be usefull for developers to downgrade rate of user`s requests in case of common problems on compilation of some package.

What we have now? If there`s a _common_ problem, people start to come to irc, post in forums, fill bugzilla`s entries. Flood starts ...

automatically discover a solution
Bad idea. The fluid nature of Gentoo means that configuration steps are constantly changing. Take a look at baselayout -- a fix in one version to solve a problem likely won't be possible in the next version, since variables and/or the "way to do it" has changed ...

I vote NO
simply because it will fill the auto-buzilla with pointless entries swamping the legit (sounds good in theory)

take my example from today: Updating world so I get GNOME-2.16 and gtk+ keeps failing time after time after time
turns out cairo keeps getting downgraded by pycairo not being ...

I think it's a great idea. Countless times there's some extremely common problem and it's all over the forums and the topic in IRC but people still ask and ask (just to name a few: pam-login/shadow, kde-env/kdebase).

I can't agree more. While it should probably be turned off by default I just ...

Idea: Gentoo Automated Error Reporting/Resolution Client

Here's an idea I'd like to propose. I'm sorry if it's already been suggested--I didn't see anything in the forums or the GLEP list.

I'd like to create a feature in emerge that, when it encounters a build error, gives the user the choice of submitting the error to a server (possibly hosted by Gentoo ...

I've posted a second draft of the ebuild with a few fixes. It now doesn't pull in libX11 (and thus modular X), just virtual/x11. It's ~x86 instead of x86. It now creates the one line env.d file it needs rather than requiring it to be included in ${FILESDIR}. It prints a few einfo messages as it's ...

Draft ebuild for FirstClass client

My school uses FirstClass for email and other collaboration things. I know a lot of private schools and some businesses use it for collaboration, and I imaging some Gentoo users would like an ebuild for it, so I wrote one and submitted it as Bug #148817 on Bugzilla. If you use FirstClass, please put ...

I can't wait until I get it.

It's definitely a good deal if you can get the entire system at 20% off like I did. Unfortunately, though, they didn't have the 160 GB ...

If you look on Dell's website, the model pictured in the Flash animation has the extended battery. The part that sticks out is a cylinder that sticks out in about the middle 2/3 of the back, by less than an inch. Personally I haven't found it to be a big deal, but I've noticed two things: first, it ...

Sure, get a fast processor (preferably dual-core) and plenty of RAM ;-)

It really depends on how much the VM's will be used. I could decently run 2 VM's on a 1.7 GHz P-M laptop with 512 MB, provided I wasn't using both VM's and the host. But that wouldn't do at all if the VM's were virtual servers ...

I re-emerged all the alsa-* 1.0.13_rc2, packages, and I've got working audio input, but it's got other problems. First, occasionally the two stereo channels of the audio input will be offset a bit. Not a big problem. Second, jack sense doesn't work. If ...
