m4

I don't really see the relation with my problem; I am not using paludis overlay, but portage version of paludis..

m4 package can't be installed still; I can't upgrade paludis or coreutils to do that, because they depend on m4 and the vicious circle ends...

Any ideas what might be done to such a problem?

My only guess is to try and add "modeline" entries to the monitor section. As far as I understood it (not really sure) they allow to specify the parameters of the monitor for each resolution. There should some scipts in the internet to generate them..

compiz, compiz-fusion, kde shortcuts and others

Hi!

I have three questions to those who use compiz (compiz fusion).

1. Is it possible to take use of compiz-fusion, but still be able to use the shortcuts from kde (and generally stick to kde)?
I haven't installed compiz-fusion itself yet, but I was trying to use compiz with kde-window-decorator ...

Isn't this a problem with a name not following the specification?

And paludis (unlike emerge) just checks it?

2.24.4

I have a small problem. I have paludis-2.24.4 at the moment and the problem is that it has a bug and whatever I am trying to install I get "ldconfig: invalid option -- e". This is probably fixed in 2.24.5, but obviously I can't install it using paludis :? The question is: what to do best in such a ...

Many thanks for this help :)
There was much more packages depending on virtual/x11, but reinstalling them all helped.

I am still fighting with some packages which don't want to install themselves, but I am confident that they will finally work;)

But if you insist (AFTER normal emerge update)
It would be great if you could shed a light on this matter. I can see problems with packages that are no longer there, but have no idea how to uninstall them using paludis (paludis -u ...

[paludis] lots of warnings..

Hi!

I tried to migrate to paludis, but the first thing that scared me away were warnings.. I tried to test paludis with "paludis -i world", but the thing I got is a few pages of "warnings".. there were some concerning xorg-x11, mplayer wrong name and many others...
It didn't even start to install ...

I understand that migration from portage to paludis is a one-way trip?

Do you consider paludis to be stable and functional complete to move to it from portage? Are there many problems with ebuild compatibility?

I seems to be a really nice alternative, but I am worried not to destroy my system ...

Base on that, command that re-emerges all "-9999" packages;)

Code: Select all

emerge -av `find /var/db/pkg/ -mindepth 2 -maxdepth 2 -name \*-9999|awk -F \/ '{printf "=%s/%s ", $5, $6}'`
Thx;)

That is my idea also, but:

Is there a tool or sth, that can be used to find packages with version 9999? It would be more simple and more elegant. And there won't be a necessity to update the script too..

Best way to update packages from live ebuilds?

[Moderator note: Since this thread was raised from its ten year sleep, changed title from 9999 to be a bit more descriptive. -Hu]

As far as I read, all ebuild marked -9999 are not updated in any way during standard emerge update.

Question: Is there a nice way to (occasionally) re-emerge ALL ...

I delete the file and remerging still fails.
I downloaded the file by wget and copied to distfiles -> fails.

Any clues?

xvidcap withouy gvidcap?

There is this application in portage - xvidcap.

It can record the screen of yours and save it to mpeg, avi or sth.

It has USE flag "gtk" which should build gvidcap program which uses gtk, in spite of xvidcap (which is not so actively maintained).
The problem is: I don't have this gvidcap program ...

transports for jabber servers

Hi gentoo users!

I was wondering, why all of the transports for jabber depend on "jabberd".. why it is not something like virtual "jabberserver"? There is for example ejabber, which - as far as I know - also can use the same transports?
Anyone who could solve my doubts?

Re: hardened->vanilla

Prelink works perfectly with the hardened toolchain. Some people seem to have had problems with prelink and the hardened kernel sources , but that is something else entirely.
Otherwise, the hardened profile only affects most packages at build time (using the hardened gcc profile). A small number ...

hardened->vanilla

I would like to change my system from being "hardened" to vanilla. One of the reasons is that I could use prelink.

My question is: is there anyone who maybe tried to write a script which will remerge packages which have binaries still hardened? Remerging all will take me a week and it would be nice ...

Dunno. For me, Firefox 1.0 was much much faster than 1.5; or rather, 1.5 is extremely slow for me. I wondered if I should submit a bug / inquiry because of that, found an existing one and commented on that. However, the bug was dismissed by a single dev with a 'works for me' comment.

So I guess ...
