slow www browsers / gentoo problem?

I was trying to find a browser which will render pages like www.netvibes.com fast (and because of that, other pages with js,dom,css too).

Drag & dropping boxes on that page in all browsers I've tried, aren't definitely smooth. Maybe I installed them wrong?
I have www-client/mozilla-firefox-bin-1.5.0.3, www-client/opera-8.52 ..
Opera is way behind firefox with drag&dropping them...
Loading pages also seem to be a little bit too long - in both.
Concluding: javascript in both browser just doesn't work properly.

I have compared systems
1.hardened-gcc and without DRI
2.without hardened gcc with DRI support
- problem isn't there.

I've already tried running firefox (my main browser) in "-safe-mode"... -> extensions aren't the problem.
Tried export MOZ_DISABLE_PANGO=1 - a little faster, but isn't a solution to the problem.
Tried limitting memory, enabling pipelining in firefox and "display delay"... still the same.

My frustration came with the comparison to the windows XP with the same ISP and slower processor and memory - both firefox and IE are working perfect with those pages and are loading considerably faster...

ideas? clues?

Dunno. For me, Firefox 1.0 was much much faster than 1.5; or rather, 1.5 is extremely slow for me. I wondered if I should submit a bug / inquiry because of that, found an existing one and commented on that. However, the bug was dismissed by a single dev with a 'works for me' comment.

So I guess unless someone can find out why / what exactly makes it slow, there won't nobody be doing anything. You could try your luck with Firefox 2 (beta) though; I've heard from several people that it has some speed improvements, but didn't have the time yet to give it a try myself.

Honestly I was surprised that no browser is fast enough... and the same firefox running fast enough on windows Xp box..

I'll try firefox2 if time will allow me to.. thanks for that..
