php 8 digit limit warning

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

php 8 digit limit warning

  • Quote

Post by beso_1717 » Thu Aug 23, 2007 5:44 pm

i was wondering where to signal to the php maintainers the warning that i get when i parse the world db for dependencies resolving when i install packages.
i always get that annoying warning that gets for quite some packages depending on php and it is quite annoying. i would like them to rename the ebuild so that the parsing will not throw that warning. i could do it myself, but then i get a corruption message when modifying it. and it would drive me mad because i would have to do it every day because i sync once a day.
so i was wondering where i should signal this thing to hope getting it fixed (i think that it would be just a matter of some minutes to fix it).
thank you for your help.

I assume he's a paludis user.

Code: Select all

... When fetching versions of 'dev-lang/php' in gentoo:
... When loading versions for 'dev-lang/php' in gentoo:
... When parsing version spec '5.2.4_pre200708051230-r2':
... Number part '200708051230' exceeds 8 digit limit

Aha. Okay. Is Paludis not a unsupported software? I was under the impression that there is a post in the Gentoo forum where you can add your problems with Paludis? Why then opening a new thread in Portage & Programming?

Isn't this a problem with a name not following the specification?

And paludis (unlike emerge) just checks it?

If you find it annoying you can suppress it by adding "--log-level warning" to your commands

i indeed use paludis, but i think that this is a programming issue (not related to portage/paludis or so) but related to an ebuild. i don't know where else to ask for something about ebuild programming issue.
and it's not an error or bug, it's just a warning based on the fact that php has snapshots more than once a day. the thing may be fixed in a very simple way by just renaming the ebuild to some way (maybe as in the bug referred by genone for example).
that's why i was asking here. if i did it in the wrong forum group forgive me cause i didn't know where else to place the thing. and as i said, it's not an error it's just a warning that gets out when calculating the package deps. it doesn't break anything (at least for now) but it's annoying when updating world because there are a lot of packages that trigger it.
