Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!

It wouldn't have been nearly as bad for me if I could've gotten rid of that dialog box in the corner, but I couldn't. It would not allow me for whatever reason. Though, I guess that's ...

I think it was a hardware issue. Changed a few things (Such as revolting my processor up higher, forgot about that. And resetting my RAM to the auto value which is DDR333, but the RAM is rated at DDR400, so I dunno) and it works fine now.

Nope, sometimes it happens shortly after a reboot (<1 hour), other times it takes a while. Been having problems with my nvidia kernel driver lately too, I think I can fix that, but with the other problems I've been having, and not liking gnome, I'll just do a reinstall.

I'll try memtest86 tonight ...

Gentoo randomly crashes after installing for a few weeks

Argg... I don't know what I'm doing wrong, I've been installing Gentoo alot lately (I'm still a Windows user at heart, can't get over the "if it doesn't work, reinstall" crap :( (But at least I no longer use Windows on my computer)) and probably a week or two after I've installed it, it starts to ...

I might try VMWare if it supports that, but I honestly have no clue.

If I started Cedega with a processor affinity at runtime, would any child processes also have that processor affinity? It might work that way. I dunno how to do a processor affinity though.

I dunno if I need a chroot or not, I ...

I think the chroot uses your currently running kernel, I don't think it has a kernel all for itself.

I know virtual machines like VMWare and Xen uses a new kernel for each machine, I may have to do that if it's unable to be done via a chroot... But can they make use of NVidia 3D acceleration?

I ...

How do I allow a chroot to use only 1 processor?

I'm really not sure how to ask this, or even if I'm saying it right, but I have an Athlon 64 X2, and I'm wondering if I can set up a chroot to use only 1 of the 2 processors in it.

The reason being is that a game I play has issues with a multiple processor system, which I can run fine under Cedega ...

Read-only /

I've been wanting to build a dedicated server box for a while, but I've been thinking about how to secure it. I've read parts of the SELinux handbook, but I don't remember them touching on having a readonly / in the /etc/fstab sections.

On a webserver, all that would need to be written to is ...

I recommend going for an X2 4400+, I think that doubled cache really helps with compiling, but to be honest, I'm not sure. The stock cooler I got with my X2 is pretty heavy duty, has heat pipes and all, and I've heard they got a newer, better one. Stock cooling should be fine if you don't want to ...

[SOLVED]Compiling x86 kernel on x86_64?

Uh... I got a weird problem. I'm not sure if anyone has gotten into it before but... I want to make a home server out of this really old box, but it's so old, it can't boot from a CD. So, I took the harddrive out and put it in my main box, a 64 bit one, running Gentoo natively at 64 bit. What I did ...

Hi, I've been looking for a ADSL PCI card as well, and I came across this topic. The Pulsar one that was linked above looks good, but it doesn't have any specifications on the website as to how high of a transmission speed it can support. I'd need at least 1.5 Mbps down and 928 Kbps up, and I'm not ...
