Internal PCI DSL modem anyone?

Kernel not recognizing your hardware? Problems with power management or PCMCIA? What hardware is compatible with Gentoo? See here. (Only for kernels supported by Gentoo.)

Internal PCI DSL modem anyone?

  • Quote

Post by eisenack » Tue Jun 22, 2004 10:47 pm

Since my external DSL modem (Deutsche Telekom) died, I'm thinking of saving some meters of cable by installing an internal DSL modem. Namely the ALLNET ALL1768U PCI. There only are Windows drivers supplied, which I downloaded and found some "Alcatel" labels on. (...and I got a photo!)

That's all I know. So my question is:
Is there anybody out there, who has successfully installed an internal DSL modem to a Gentoo system?

Some advice would be great.
Thank you.

PS: Yes, yes... external modems are cheaper and kind of self installing, but hey! we all love the 'linux struggle', don't we?

Did you have any luck finding one that worked? I was checking these out, because I want to build a DSL/firewall/gateway out of an old P2.

I don't have PCI modem, and I think it's quite complicated to get the right one which works perfectly with Linux (IMHO). I've been searching for the same information ~half an year ago... now I've SpeedTouch 330 USB modem (bught for $15 ;) ) ... and all I can say it's working very good, even better then standalone ethernet ADSL modem (especially under heavy loads with p2p clients).

Hi, I've been looking for a ADSL PCI card as well, and I came across this topic. The Pulsar one that was linked above looks good, but it doesn't have any specifications on the website as to how high of a transmission speed it can support. I'd need at least 1.5 Mbps down and 928 Kbps up, and I'm not sure if that would support it.

I'm also trying to build a home gateway/firewall/router as a fun little project, and I'd like to have everything in one box if possible.

Thanks! :)
