Cannot Install WordPress 2.0.1

Post by Eidi » Sun Feb 12, 2006 7:51 am

After having emerged WordPress 2.0.1, and trying to install it via <website>/wp-admin/install.php, I get

Code: Select all

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: preg_replace() in /var/www/localhost/htdocs/wp-settings.php on line 157
I'm not a coding expert, but could that be something caused by PHP not being emerged right or something? I dunno to be honest. But I'm thinking this because PHP 5.0.5 wouldn't emerge, so I hard masked it in package.mask and installed PHP 4.

This is on a fresh install, MySQL database all set up... Using the latest stable version of MySQL and Apache, not sure what I did wrong, and since WordPress 2.0.1 is new in portage, it doesn't look like there's many threads about it.

I hope someone can help, thanks!

After emerging PHP 5, and I still have that problem, I don't think it's a PHP problem. Everything needed by WordPress is chmodded 777 so it can write it's own config file, but that still doesn't work...

I was looking on the Gentoo Wiki howto for WordPress, outdated I know, but it says WordPress needs mod_php to allow Apache2 to talk with MySQL. However, I don't think that's my problem, it seems the database accessing is just fine...

Any ideas? Thanks.

It is a php problem but only in the way it's been emerged. Check your use flags and make sure 'pcre' is enabled. Refer to the Upgrading PHP page for more info:

Code: Select all

emerge -pv dev-lang/php
[ebuild R ] dev-lang/php-5.0.5-r5 .... +apache2 ... +berkdb ... +bzip2 ... +crypt ... +dba ... +gd ... +gdbm ... +ipv6 ... +mhash ... +mysql ... +ncurses +nls ... +pcre ... +readline ... +spell ... +ssl ... +truetype ... +zlib
I still get the same error message when going to install.php on my website...

Reemerged it a few times with pcre. Are there any use flags that I should add or remove from that? (Sorry, I omitted all the ones that were -, it would take too long to write'em out.)

Thanks for the help, I wonder what the problem is then...

Any other ideas?

Anyone got any ideas? PHP still hates me for whatever reason.
