HP printer stopped working

Hi. My HP Deskjet 5740 was working fine last time I used it. However now it refuses to print.

Cups gives the error "Unable to send print file to printer: Invalid argument". Turning debug logging doesnt give much more info. Only major system changes since the last use are upgrade to 2.6.14 kernel ...

Quite strange. Its working fine for me gentoo-2.6.14-r5 kernel, 8178 drivers, fancy framebuffer, Xorg 7.0 (worked on 6.8.99 too).

Have you tried the run package from the nvidia site aswell as the ebuild (both work for me). Framebuffer wise, as long as your using the vesa buffer and NOT the nvidia ...

Re: Optical Trackman

- Yes. Ever since the upgrade my GTK fonts are too large, even using the DisplaySize parameter. Currently I use the gnome-font-properties utility to shrink them on every boot. However, the major annoyance is that my AngleOffset parameter doesn't work. Anyone have any ideas?

hmmm, in the 2.85 ebuild mplayer32-bin is already in as the dependancy. I also have a 64 bit mplayer compiled, which I use for a lot of stuff like x264 encoding, which mplayer-bin doesn't do.

Thanks for the suggestions though.

Indeed, its 1.0.6 build in a 64 bit environment. Does that mean I would need firefox-bin for mplayerplug-in32?

Hey. I'm using bi3l's ebuild for x264 and his mplayer ebuild. First of all a big thanks, they work great. Mencoder works with it no probs and play back is no problem for mplayer even in an mkv. Encoding is damn slow though. I'm talking about 6fps first pass (mencoder stream.dump -ovc x264 -nosound ...

Hey, as soon as X starts up, the fan on my Leadtek 7800GTX hits full. It's not under any load or getting too hot (nvidia-settings reads 38 degrees). Anyone know if i can adjust this somehow, as its damn annoying!

Yeah its the page encoding. It's only started for me since i converted my system to utf-8. I think it happens when the browser views a page that is written in a different encoding that uses slightly different characters fo different values, or something like that.

Thanks for helping out. I notice that the Syba(Sillicon Image 3112 chipset) is listed as supporting Linux on the newegg website, so i suppose it should be safe to go with that.

You cant compile fglrx into the kernel, because its 3rd party.

Also you DONT want DRM/DRI.

You DO want agpgart (under character devices) along with your chipset below it. This is the chipset on your motherboard.

Infact, quote from wedge's FAQ

Question 2.1: Which kernel options are important ...
