temporarily resolved:

Code: Select all

echo "x11-misc/xkeyboard-config ~x86" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
this installs 1.2 instead of 1.1 without any issue.

If you have removed both sys-libs/libkudzu-1.2 and dev-python/rhpl-0.210, you are going to have to find which packages are requiring one of those and remove those as well. You could do a ~arch on the libkudzu since that error message has a < in it. This might allow rhpl to be installed alongside.

x11-misc/xkeyboard-config Digest Verification Failure

Reporting incorrect filesizes. I have already verified the file downloaded properly. Is there another way than editing the Manifest file manually until the ebuilds get fixed to report the proper size? Been awhile since I've hit one of these.

Code: Select all

echo "x11-libs/enigmail" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
that will allow the install 0.94.3 version of enigmail which passes the digest checks. so you can continue with:

Code: Select all

emerge -av thunderbird

same here. looks like the enigmail digests need updated to reflect recent changes to the thunderbird source.

Yes, this statement is absolutely pointless, but somebody thought I should spend time figuring it out. You can see how productive we are here in the office throwing these types of expressions around to solve. Thanks for the recommendations on where to look for reference as I am sure I will be ...

Perl: /^(?:(d+)|::)* what does that equate to?

what exactly would /^(?:(d+)|::)* equate to if you say would including it in a grep statement?

VirtualGL, TurboVNC & Beryl

I am going to attempt to setup virtualgl and turbovnc to use beryl remotely. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I begin with hunting down VirtualGL sources because it isn't in portage.

uninstall and remove all associated vmware directories, then reinstalling and reconfiguring made it work. Guess it had to do with the recent update to vmware server.

vmware-server problems [fixed]

i have gotten vmware-server to run for awhile on stable x86 keyword arch. The problem is reboots (doesn't think its configured b/c of udev not saving the device nodes - that was fixed by an init script hack i found somewhere that checks for and creates if missing the nodes before attempting to start ...

I resolved this and many other issues I was having by downgrading from ~x86 to x86. [unstable to stable architecture]. Gimp stable now works fine for me in all aspects. I am not sure what fixed it, but vmware-server and a few other packages seem to be more reliable (or stable, hmm... maybe that is ...

simply make sure your kernel sources are up to date:
# emerge -DuNa gentoo-sources

then follow this:
# cd /usr/src/linux
make menuconfig

Here you get your menu to configure all your options. I am assuming you are following server guides and realizing you need to compile in different options as ...

Now you could try emerging gentoolkit and using genkernel to give you a base config that has lots of options installed (most as modules) and then you can peruse through the menuconfig and disable what you think are safe options to disable.

Try:
#emerge gentoolkit
#genkernel --no-install ...

Take ALSA out of the USE Flags to get the development builds to run. [2.3.13 and 2.3.14]. After having done this I was able to start and use GIMP except when it came to opening or saving files and then it freezes. So I downgraded to the stable version [2.2.12] and masked the dev builds (~x86 here ...

I was having a problem with vmware-server hanging on init script. What fixed my problem is creating a symbolic link so that /etc/init.d/vmware points to /etc/vmware/init.d/vmware.

Don't know if this will help anyone else.
