It's not a problem with Gentoo per se, which is very well designed. I still think portage kicks ass. But it's a BIG problem with project management. And to their credit, their is nothing easy about software project management, even when there are bags of money. Releasing something that will ...

2006.1 rushed out the door?

I don't know if the developers read this, so I'm not sure if this is the right place to say it, but I feel like 2006.1 just wasn't ready to go out yet and am disturbed from the gentoo news that it was essentially rushed to meet their six month deadline.

I've never had any problems before with ...

I believe the Debian stable 64 is supposed to work ok, but I can say from experience that installing Debian testing for AMD64 is a long way from working the way it's supposed too. ( I gave up, it was screwed up ). I had a much easier time getting gentoo up and going.

Is that it? There are no options we need to be aware of or anything? How do we know if a 64bit binary is the result?

Also, I am confused as to how to install the result. It appears that portage puts libs in /usr/lib64 but when I compile other libs the traditional way, the wind up in /usr/lib or ...

no usb power to usb midi, help

Hi, I recently upgraded to an AMD 64 on an Asus K8N-E. I can't get my usb midi box working however. On boot up, there is a flash of all the lights, and then after that no light on the usb power led.

Can anyone give me a clue as to where I have mucked up the kernel config or what should be in there ...

32bit athlonXP install for AMD64, which kernel to use?

Hi folks. I *need* a rock solid bare bones system with alsa working for both a usb-midi card and a pci-audio card. My chip is an AMD64 3000+ socket 754. I bought the 64 so I can muck about with 64 bit later, but right now I just need something that won't crash or have alsa problems. I plan on doing ...

Alsa not working, especially with aplay

Hoping someone can help. Very strange problems. Xmms and xine still play fine when using the oss emulation layer, but aplay and csound can't use alsa directly anymore. No idea what did it.

When I try and use aplay, it starts, and there are no error messages, but what happens is the audio is just a ...

Alsa died in gnome only, any clue?

Hi folks, I used to have alsa working fine in both console and in gnome, but now it no longer works in gnome. I tried reinstalling alsa and tested it before turning on gnome and it still works fine from console. But once I start up gnome, I can get no sound. The only thing I have done is install ...

Making a small Gentoo installation

Just wondering how one would go about making a gentoo install that could be stuck on one CD. Essentially a live CD for my own machine that would boot up, have alsa on it and run an audio app, and not include Xwindows or any graphic stuff. I assume I could do this with gentoo, but I'm not sure how ...

Help with Macronix 98715 ethernet

I don't know which ethernet card to choose during the kernel config menu, can anyone let me know which to use? My card says Macronix 98715 AEC on it.

Thanks
