Re: PPPoA & Actiontec 701WG

I am in the process of building a five zone firewall. Currently I am working on the WAN side of things. I have an Actiontec DSL modem with an ethernet and usb port on it. Qwest is my provider and they prefer that PPPoA be used to connect to the net. PPPoE works but tends to lose connection. I would ...

There are a few things in this guide that I would like to point out, some things I don't agree with, and a couple of things that make huge security holes.

Thanks for your posting. This is going to help out quite a bit in my initial install. Knowing the info that you've posted in advance is going ...

A shorter sed version: #!/bin/sed -f

I've recently started learning/studying SED and GREP thanks to this thread. I'm unsure if this is correct or not but doesn't the following basically accomplish stripping out "commented lines" as well as "blank ...

Sweet.

Thanks kashani. :D

For the "supervise-scripts" pkg to work correctly. Do I need to add svscanboot to "inittab" or "rc-update add svscan default" ?

[edit] Nevemind. Its "inittab".

Thanks again.

Thanks for the reply kashani.

I'm going to start over again. I didn't know if I should run:

ebuild /var/db/pkg/net-mail/qmail-1.03-r13/qmail-1.03-r13.ebuild config

.... because I'm not running a public MX server. This is on a home lan. Hoping to have fetchmail pass mail to qmail. And qmail ...

Qmail "user" and "group" info ?

Greetings,

I'm following the "Life with qmail" doc and I notice that they have in "/etc/group":

qmail:*:2107:
nofiles:*:2108:

I show:
nofiles:x:200:
qmail:x:201:

For users in "/etc/passwd" (LWQ) shows:

alias:*:7790:2108::/var/qmail/alias:/bin/true
qmaild:*:7791:2108::/var/qmail:/bin/true ...

I've found two very usefull resources in conjunction to reading Life with qmail that are very benifical in MY research.

I'm thinking of doing the same thing. I was going to use Exim but I figured as long as I'm at it I might as well learn what I can with Qmail. I have pretty much the same setup. Good luck.

I will follow this thread.

I remerged "kdebase" and "kdepim".

Error opening terminal: xterm. [Solved]

Hello,

I just recently did an "emerge sync" and "emerge -uD world".
I'm running KDE version 3.2.0 and KONSOLE version 1.3

Now when I try and use "nano" to edit files I get this error. Searching on the forums hasn't helped.

Example:

toast@fusion1 toast $ nano -w newfile.txt
Error opening ...

"#!/usr/bin/env python" works only if python is in your path. Otherwise you would use "#!/usr/bin/python" or whatever, but then you have to know the path to the Python interpreter. The env program can usually be assumed to be in /usr/bin, but it is by no means certain.

If you are doing a bigger ...

I've gotten sick of wasting my time trying to figure out why gaim and yahoo don't work. Its as if there's some type of game afoot. Gaim gets fixed and then something happens and it doesn't work again mysteriously. This is how its been for the last yr. almost for me.
