I may be in this thread from earlier, don't remember.

Anyway, in the process of doing a new build on an Ultra 10. Had one before, but I decided I wanted to rebuild it for the hell of it.

Anyway, about all I remember is it has 256 MB of RAM (going to be increased), and runs a 3xx MHz processor (don ...

My question is similar to that of Titan's, so I'm basically wondering the same thing. In my case, I want it to start X, start a window manager, and start Firefox, preferably all without user intervention.

Otherwise, any alternatives?

Catalyst and Gentoo LiveCD

Hello,

Just wanting to make sure I'm reading what I've read about Catalyst correctly. I want to be able to build a custom bootable LiveCD that runs X with Fluxbox, Firefox, and a few other applications. This would be to use with machines here at the office, as we're doing a thin-client based setup ...

Anyone ever get Asheron's Call running?

I'm just getting back into the game, and I'm detesting the idea of having to use my Windows box for it, but if I must I must.

I did a search and it looks as though all of the attempts were unsuccessful, but I figured I'd check and see if perhaps that has changed for anyone.

Maybe now that Turbine ...

It was indeed an OSS problem. I didn't actually compile OSS into the kernel, but rather didn't realize I didn't have the OSS emulation compiled for ALSA, so I just did that and it worked.

I'll dig into that other error later though.

Thanks!

America's Army - No Sound (Resolved)

Okay, I did a search first, but didn't really find anything that helped. The game appears to play fine, just not getting any sound. I get this error though:

bash-2.05b$ ./armyops

Looking for web page slideshow software

I do a lot of photography, and rather than putting everything in a directory on my site, I'd like to be able to do just a simple slideshow: click on the link, takes you to the next pic. I know I've seen software that creates the pages for Windows, but is there anything for Linux? It would make my ...

I have the same problem with mine. It's an onboard NIC, and it has this excruciatingly long "MAC" address. I didn't bother to figure out what was going on though since I needed to get the box up. I just threw another NIC in and had no problems then.

I'll poke around on my box though and see what I ...

Okay, I have the issue solved.

Turns out it was apparently an issue with where mplayer was sending the audio. Even though I was getting sound at the proper rate, the video was sped up to over double what it should have been.

Well, after hunting around on the web, I came across this link . Down ...

I absolutely love Mutt. Won't go back to a graphical client if I can help it.

I'm only using the basic setup in the Mutt guide I saw floating in the Gentoo docs somewhere, but for me that's more than sufficient.

iamben, Yes.. Doesn't make any difference. :(

I did not originally have RTC compiled in the kernel, and I am not overclocking. Now I do have it compiled into the kernel, and sitll not overclocking. :)

And, sadly, still having problems with it.. :(

Forgive the ignorance, but what's RTC? I'm going to go see if I can find something that might be it regardless though, but not exactly sure what RTC is.

mplayer - video plays too fast, audio plays normal (solved)

Hello everyone!

I'm not as familiar as I might like to be with mplayer and some of the options it has. And from what I've read in the man pages, I'm not sure if my problem can be solved with options or not.

What I'm running into is a problem with playing videos. For example, I have a 45 second AVI ...

i always suggest having a /home or such partition. just some way to keep the OS and data seperate in case the OS breaks or you choose to install a different OS.

I have to agree with this big time. I'm very glad I had a separate partition for my /home. I royally screwed up my installation the ...

Unless I'm not understanding what you're saying at all, the video card you put into it will have a monitor port on it. It'll either be the older style DB 15 or the newer DVI connection.

I just dealt with a very very similar situation.

I have no doubt just upgrading the drivers would have solved my problem, but as noted, I had other issues so I just bulldozed my / partition (which has everything but /boot and /home on it).

Hope it ...

Okay, I've tried all of that, and I'm having problems.

What's happening is that it appears to want to load X fine, but after that, the screen just goes completely garbled with flashing ASCII/ANSI graphics. Seems to lock the system up completely too.

Any ideas?

Also, I'm running the 2.6.5-gentoo ...

Video card upgrade questions (RESOLVED)

Hello everyone!

I just bought an Chaintech GeForce FX5700 LE to replace the GeForce2 MX400 I have already. I did a quick search and didn't really find the answer to my question(s), so I'm asking here:

- Do the drivers I already have installed for the MX400 work with the FX5700 LE?
- If the answer ...
