vpnc 0.4 reconnect?

a few days ago, vpnc 0.4 was released which includes rekeying support.
http://www.unix-ag.uni-kl.de/~massar/vpnc/

I tryed it and it was at least connected for over 13 hours instead of the 8 hours before connection died while vpnc was still running.

Now I noticed that my connection did close after ...

garbled TV output with hauppauge TV card

I have a strange problem with my tv card.

It's a hauppauge card that uses the bt878 driver.

Usually tv output is working fine, but all of a sudden, the video output becomes garbled with no sound.
After some time the output returns to normal.

I have this with xawtv and xdtv.

I also have this problem of my davicom networkcard seeming to fail now and then. If I watch the lights on my switch, they are on for some time, then go out for a while.

weird creative audigy 2 problem - repeating samples [solved]

I have a strange problem with my creative audigy 2 ZS card.

first some facts (to prevent people from asking those)

I am using kernel 2.6.15.3 at this moment and I have ALSA compiled into the kernel including the emu10k1 driver (not as modules)

I also have a c-media onboard soundcard wich works ...

I can confirm that this mppe in the kernel is working :D

I am testing it a little more to see if the connection stays on. If results are good, I won't have to use vpnc any longer. Vpnc is good and easy to connect, but the lack of rekeying support is something I really don't like about it.

hmm, it appears local.start is executed indeed, but commands like export and alias are not. If I put some service in there to start, it starts.

Anyone an idea why export and alias don't work here anymore? It used to work in the 2004.x ages, even though it does not belong there...

Check, if local.start indeed won't be executed:
Put something like this line echo "`/bin/date` local.start executed" >> /tmp/local.start.test into Your local.start -file. Then reboot, and check the test-file /tmp/local.start.test

I don't think local.start is the right place for what You want ...

local.start is not executed

I have a strange problem after I installed gentoo (stage 3 from universal liveCD)

I first had a problem with emerging packages, but I found on the forums that my use flags were not exported. After exporting the use flags, emerge worked.

I don't know why they are not exported at boottime, but this ...

I'm not completely sure, but I don't think those 2 things do the same.

Speedstep is scaling your frequency and voltage down to reduce power consumption. Cpufreq only puts idle cycles between the instructions to scale down the effective frequency but in reality remains at full speed, without any ...

yesterday I tried to boot my gentoo partition in vmware under windows.

I used vmware 5 beta which is ...

aha, I compiled a new kernel following the alsa & dmix howto on gentoo-wiki.com and after running alsaconf it appears to be better now. It is not as loud as at first but still a bit loud.

At least I can easily adjust the volume now without crackling sounds at high volume.

now try to check out why ...

What is Gentoo doing with my touchpad?

I have a strange thing going on with the synaptics touchpad in my notebook.
I have the gentoo-dev-sources (2.6.9) and the touchpad and tapping worked all out of the box, I didn't even have to fiddle with parameters in the xorg.config.

Great :D , what's the problem then?

When I reboot my notebook ...

I'm not having as much time as I want at the moment to be experimenting with my gentoo a little more, but next thing I'm going to try is not to use the built-in driver from the kernel but load the i8x0 driver for alsa. This way I should also be able to use dmix for software mixing which is not ...

I have a sis 7012 soundcard.

you can put this

Code: Select all

amixer -c0 set 'Master' 100 unmute
amixer -c0 set Wave'' 100 unmute
amixer -c0 set 'PCM' 100 unmute
in you local.start file.

It should solve it, but it would be better if alsmixer did remember it by his own.

I have no idea what could be the problem but at least it works now for me with that kernel so if you want you can compare your kernel-config with mine: http://studwww.ugent.be/~pspeybro/laatstaan/config

be sure to check the mass storage thing under USB and the scsi disk support

No, I added everything that was mentioned in the howto and I still cannot select it.
Is there a way to see what it depends on?

Here is my config: http://studwww.ugent.be/~pspeybro/laatstaan/config

Is this kernel really patched?

I'm using gentoo-dev-sources 2.6.7-gentoo-r11.
When I do "bootsplash_patch" it says that my kernel is already patched.
In menuconfig I can see "bootsplash configuration --> " but I cannot go in there to enable bootsplash.

Framebuffer is working, but no bootsplash
