Malfunctioning udev?

When changing kernel from 2.6.7 to 2.6.10 i decided to ditch devfs in favor of udev. After the reboot i noticed that /dev looked like the "classic" /dev. With classic i mean fully populated, with i.e disk-partitions i didn't have, or disks i didn't have for that matter. /dev/mouse did'nt exist ...

If you don't want sa installed use another web browser or edit the ebuild and stop complaining about it. As I said earlier, that's a rather ugly solution.

This is what use flags are for... It ought to be a job for USE-flags. In this case however, spamassassin is a dependency, and there is nothing ...

Unfortunately this makes no difference. The current version(s) of wine isn't able to start the Diablo 2 installer where older versions could. The instance of diablo 2 i have installed is copied from a vfat-partition.

Do I have to consider anything or can I just go ahead with cp --recursive ...

Running Diablo 2 with wine

I'm running into problems trying to get diablo 2 running in wine. This wasn't a problem at all with a version of wine about a year old.

When running "wine game.exe" i recieve the following;
err:toolhelp:TOOLHELP_Module32Next Result buffer too small (req: 548, was: 512)

Very well, point(s) taken.

Now then, how can i stop spamassassin from being installed. According to the ebuild, spamassassin is a dependancy of evolution.
I do however have evolution installed already without spamassassin, as I mentioned earlier my mail is filtered elsewhere. My current version of ...

This would explain a thing or two, however my mail is filtered elsewere so spamassassin is still useless to me. Is there any way skip this package?
Evolution is working fine without it.

Re: Portage, what are you thinking?

And why wouldn't you have two versions installed side-by-side ? Simply because i fail to see a use for two versions of gcc. I've yet to find an app that depends on a specific version of gcc to compile.

It may even be required if you need to run 2 applications that need different versions to ...

Portage, what are you thinking?

I ran the command "emerge -pvuD world", more out of curiosity of what could be upgraded than out of need. I noticed a few things that made me raise an eyebrow.

First of all, portage wants to intall GCC 3.4.3, which is fine by me, but it isn't marked as an upgrade as I thought it should be, but as a ...

(g)mplayer bugs?

I've got two rather irritating quirks in mplayer, they are:

1. When playing something in fullscreen in gmplayer with xv as video-driver, the screen goes black when switching from one file to another. If i simply click anywhere in the window, the image is there and things go on normaly until the ...

Something that really ought to be fixed is to set the active pixel (or whatever it's called) to the very tip of the cursors. As it is, it's about 5 pixels down, 5 pixels right from where it should be.
This applies to pretty much all of the cursor-icons. This is quite annoying when performing tasks ...

Det korta svaret är att du inte kommer behöva någon brandvägg eller antivirus.
Gentoo öppnar som standard noll portar vid installation så det är ingen risk för maskar.

After messing about, my sound support is now completely screwed.
I removed ALSA from my current kernel and let portage attempt to fix things for me. After that, /dev/mixer, /dev/pcm etc. is gone, so of course every single app refuses to play sounds.

I've tried recompiling my kernel, but the dev ...

GMplayer and ESD

I've just emerged mplayer, with it's GTK frontend, and set it up to use gl2 as its video output and esd (esound) as audio output.
My trouble is with the audio. When running mplayer as "mplayer -vo gl2 -ao esd /path/file" things work fine. When i start gmplayer -> Right click -> Open -> Play file ...

Blinking torsmo?

Most of you seems to be praising torsmo, so I've given it a shot.

Gamers should stick to one of the few things MS Windows can do right; being a gaming-platform.

I Install OS after the machines assigned task.

If it's a workstation or a little of everything, I install Linux.
If it's a gamestation, I install MS Windows ...

Several reasons for my part.

First of all, i wanted an as clean as possible distro, that doesn't want to install for example apache, gnome, or X for that matter as a standard install.

I peroviously (ugh, big spelling-issue there) used Slackware Linux for about a year and it worked well, but didn't ...

Specifying apps to update?

I've quite recently migrated from slackware to gentoo linux on my main workstation and I am this far quite impressed, however I have a few problems with portage.

Due to the fact that the availability to broadband or DSL is quite limited here in Sweden, I'm stuck on a 56k-connection, thus running ...
