Running Diablo 2 with wine

  • Quote

I'm running into problems trying to get diablo 2 running in wine. This wasn't a problem at all with a version of wine about a year old.

When running "wine game.exe" i recieve the following;

Code: Select all

err:toolhelp:TOOLHELP_Module32Next Result buffer too small (req: 548, was: 512)
fixme:psapi:EnumProcessModules no pid for hProcess 0x4086eeec
With both versions 20041201 (~x86) and 200410XX (x86).

Sometimes this pops up as well:

Code: Select all

err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x401c5b40 "loader.c: loader_section" wait timed out in thread 000f, blocked by 0011, retrying (60 sec)
err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x6ffa0730 "?" wait timed out in thread 0011, blocked by 000f, retrying (60 sec)
Does anyone know how to get this thing running? I'm attempting to get version 1.09D running with a NOCD-fix since wine doesn't play nice with securom.

Unfortunately this makes no difference. The current version(s) of wine isn't able to start the Diablo 2 installer where older versions could. The instance of diablo 2 i have installed is copied from a vfat-partition.

Do I have to consider anything or can I just go ahead with cp --recursive /windows/games/diablo2 /home/user/games/ and afterwards typing wine ~/games/diablo2/game.exe ?

That procedure has been flawless with older versions of wine.

i got it to install with the latest version of wine, but i can't patch it to version 1.10

it complains about the file archive, but there's nothing wrong with that.

the december 1st release of wine is the problem, reverting to the october 19th release solves this...

I recommend hopping over to www.codeweavers.com and trying a demo of Crossover Office, as their code-base is a little more stable(and they commit a lot to winehq.org's builds). If'n that works, it's certainly worth the investment.
