@ayvango:

Thanks for verifying that. Last time I checked (with intel-2.19.0 and fglrx-12.4), SNA was still not working. So I was a little confused when I came across an Ubuntu forums howto that says to enable SNA, but didn't have the opportunity to follow up on that.

My old web server is no longer online. But I was hoping that most of the kde-look links would work. For now, you may download it from this dropbox link. I will try to make a more stable arrangement sometime. Thanks for the interest and welcome to Gentoo forums!

@gyhor: I am not sure as to why the BusID in the generated xorg.conf is "PCI:22:0:0", even though the lspci output shows "16:00.0". You can therefore try replacing the BusID in xorg.conf with "PCI:16:0:0" and see if you get the same error in Xorg.0.log. You may also use the simpler xorg.conf ...

@gyhor: You may look at your /var/log/Xorg.0.log. Alternatively, look at the changelog of the repository or ask the maintainer directly. For example, the changelog from Ubuntu packages website is here and doesn't mention about sna.

You may have better luck with the stock oneiric intel driver, which ...

@ayvango: Thanks and I really hope that fglrx supports sna in near future, since apparently the sna driver architecture has better performance and power saving. Aside, when I got this laptop, I had given up all hope of getting the muxless radeon to work in Linux, but the fglrx support for hybrid ...

Sorry for the late replies as I probably got unsubscribed from this thread after it was moved from unsupported to tips.

@gyhor: I think it should work, given that the ATI card does show up on the pci bus (according to the lspci info in the bug report). The best bet is to use fglrx (ati proprietary ...

Thanks and hopefully it helps. Please feel free to wikify it (and I might myself do it if I find time and if that helps).

An issue has been created at github for bumblee support for radeon.

Also added some more logs in the 2nd post that might help (for reverse engg. or otherwise).

@ bojojo2020: many thanks for the hint about the xf86-video-intel package version.

@ Climber: you may need to specify the bus ID of the radeon device in the xorg.conf file. Also, you need an older xf86-video-intel as mentioned by bojojo2020.

Thanks to this thread in general, about running fglrx on ...

[HOWTO] Using recent muxless Intel/ATI hybrid graphics

This howto attempts to provide some information about running OpenGL (and OpenCL) applications on the ATI discrete graphics card on many of the recent notebooks that come with a Intel/ATI hybrid graphics system. It is primarily aimed at the recent notebooks with the PowerXpress 4.0+ model, which are ...

Do you have a file /etc/X11/xorg.conf? If not, can you try this xorg.conf for using fglrx, hoping that Mint doesn't have additional gpu-detection scripts that override xorg.conf.

Are there any options in the bios setup menu of this notebook to select integrated or discrete instead of hybrid?

If ...

@Skotlex, should thank you for being one of the two (or three) people who used this package, and for all your feedback and support :).

Indeed, you get the idea. If these few features were in mainline (and I believe they should have), I would have been happy at first place and I wouldn't create yet ...

As I indicated previously, I am pretty much discontinuing helium-sources. Mostly because the very few extra patches and features that I was interested in, are now present in vanilla (i.e., mainline) kernel or discontinued themselves. Specifically,
1. Reiser4 as I understand is not actively ...

A preliminary version of 2.6.39-helium0 is available. Reiser4 support will be added when available upstream. Also, 2.6.39* could be the last of helium-sources as I keep getting busier :).

While this shouldn't bother anyone, I added a temporary small patch that _backports_ the asus-wmi (and eeepc-wmi) driver from 2.6.39-rc7 to 2.6.38. The patch will be removed from 2.6.39 onwards. The temporary ebuild is here .

(Details: I required it for getting to work the special keyboard buttons ...

Nope, not in near future. I am lazy too :). (I do maintain a personal portage "overlay" for me, which you may browse here and download as an archive, but that would be complicating things further.) Aside, given its simplicity, you should not require it.

@ Skotlex: It was a coincidence that it came out on a weekend, when I usually look around. I am happy that at least someone uses this "patchset". BTW, there are just 4 patches, all maintained very well upstream and it is trivial to put them together on my part, so calling it a "patchset" is a bit of ...

2.6.38-helium: patch, ebuild, broken-out and precompiled.

Contains reiser4 (upstream), aufs2.1 (2.1-standalone.tree-38-rcN-20110307), tuxonice (git-20110321), fbcondecor (0.9.6-2.6.37 and gentoo-sources). All tested OK.

@ Kollin, renergy:

I too edit grub.cfg directly. I find it ridiculous to use scripts for editing such a simple config file. (Not to mention, Ubuntu and co's grub2 management is hilarious and obscures something so intuitive, all probably in the name of ease and scripting.) Regardless, you might find ...

Also see the bug 318215 at b.g.o. The conclusion is that grub-1.98 is sort of obsolete and broken with gcc-4.5, and grub-1.99 is on its way. Meanwhile, need to use grub-9999 (the bzr ebuild) with the debug options disabled in the ebuild. (Apparently grub-1.99 should also work with debug enabled but ...

Posting lspci -nn would be more helpful than just vendor and device id's. (I just see 8086 for intel all over.) One can't even tell whether it is a desktop or notebook kernel at a glance (except for your cpuinfo, which suggests it is a bog standard 4 year old mobile c2d.)

I have updated to include the reiser4 patch. If using the ebuild, please remove the old Manifest and distfiles and do a fresh ebuild digest. Also, as mentioned earlier, for future point releases of vanilla 2.6.37.X, just rename the ebuild to helium-sources-2.6.37-rX.ebuild and perform the rituals.
