Soulseek (nicotine for linux) is the best P2P program I've used. The network is relatively close-knit, and it's not uncommon to have a conversation with the peer you are downloading from. Not to mention that it's album-oriented, so you're not stuck downloading each song from the album individually.

Well, for anyone who wants to know, this problem was fixed with the latest xf86-video-i810 (2.0) release. 1680x1050 works perfectly.

gftp has a gtk use flag, make sure that it is set

i'm not sure about vlc though, it looks like the only thing related to its ui is the X flag and ncurses flag.

Try to re-emerge hal and alsa-utils paludis -i1 sys-apps/hal media-sound/alsa-utils I had the same issue with qt-3,a re-emerge of kdebase solved the problem.

Awesome! thanks, it worked.

Will the mplayer issue go away by itself with subsequent syncs? or is there any way to move them from my ...

Ok, it works now. I don't know why it did that before, but, whatever.

One thing though is after syncing, paludis wants to downgrade pciutils to pciutils-2.2.3-r2, so it does. Then after running another paludis -i world, it installs pciutils-2.2.4-r2. then after that installs it wants to downgrade ...

I have 1g, I use wmii and it never goes above 200m even when compiling large packages (with portage).

There were no crashes when using portage. In fact I had to use portage to install them because paludis would lock my computer every time (it did it like 5 out of the 10 times I used it).

i had some problems with paludis, i eventually just ended up switching back to portage. it would lock the computer during random compilations and i had to reboot every time. it wasn't with the same package either

You virtual resolution is 1680x1050 - that the pixel buffer in the Video Ram.
If you can only see a part of that on the screen the window into the pixel buffer will scroll as you approach the edges of the display - does it?
Yes, but only when I include "Virtual 1680 1050" in my xorg.conf ...

if you're looking for compatibility between the two installations, don't use nfts on your linux. the drivers are still very experimental and not stable. i'd recommend fat if you must have compatibility.

this xorg.conf worked with another video card I have (ati 9250), but it's extremely slow and almost unusable. this must mean that the modeline is right (if the dot pitch is for the monitor, i can't remember), but i can't figure out what's causing the problem.

Thanks for the response !

So I added this modeline to the monitor section:
Modeline "1680x1050@60" 146.2 1680 1784 1960 2240 1050 1053 1059 1089

and changed the display section for 16 bits to:
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Depth 16
Modes "1680x1050@60" "1280x1024" "1152x864" "1024x768 ...

915resolution in 1680x1050

I recently bought a new monitor (Dell E207WFP) and i'm trying to get it to work with its optimum resolution of 1680x1050 (1280x1024 and others work). My graphics card, i865, supports all resolutions up into the 2000's so it shouldn't be a problem, but for some reason it is.

Every time I `startx ...

I had a similar problem after trying to reinstall last weekend. I'm not sure if it was the kernel, though, because i was running the same config and version that is on my other computer (which works).

i think i narrowed it down to udev

The dates aren't announced because the new installations don't offer anything new to the users, except maybe an updated installer which won't effect any systems that are already installed.

Sorry, didn't read your post. I just looked at the error.

To find out if you have a package installed, run "emerge -av <package>" and if at the left there is an orange R, it is already installed. R means reinstall.

I wouldn't recommend removing any mono packages unless you know that no packages ...
