I believe Google no longer supplies the files for google-talkplugin-1.8.0.0, but there's a newer version in portage (keyworded). Unmask that, emerge and enjoy

When emerge states a use flag in parenthesis, this means the flag in unavailable (just removed, or disabled in the profile or something). It doesn't mean you have to include the parenthesis in your USE variable.

Maybe your use flags are overridden? You should know there are essentially 3 places where use flags can be set: in your profile (type "eselect profile list" to see which are available and which is selected), in /etc/make.conf, and in ...

Flash (10.3) looked funny on my Firefox 4/5, but updating nspluginwrapper to 1.4 seems to have fixed it.

Upgrading phonon to media-sound/phonon-9999 fixed my problem.

media-sound/phonon-vlc-9999 fails to emerge for me. I'm very interested in trying it since it's supposed to fix the bug that makes Amarok not advance to the next track when playing OGG files.

The plugin is detected just fine on my system, but it's not working. When I try to verify that everything is working via GMail's chat settings, it only shows a black box, but no webcam image. My webcam works fine with mplayer tv:// or guvcview though. Sound playback works, I don't have a microphone ...

I thought it would be as simple as placing the google dir in /opt and creating the proper plugin symlinks for Firefox (or whatever browser you want to use, I tried ...

There is a deb2targz package in portage that will convert .deb packages to .tar.gz files. Untarring this file to / might do the trick.

Quick first glance shows that it installs a cron script to /etc/cron.daily to configure repositories, might want to get rid of that.
