Flash crazy drawing broken picture/screen/window

  • Quote

Post by chy168 » Sun May 29, 2011 2:39 am

Hi all,

I used Chromium-13.0.767.1 as my browser, www-plugins/adobe-flash-10.3.181.14-r1 as flash plugin.
I've saw a crazy drawing broken on my X11 environment.

I don't know how to describe the problem, so this is my screenshot by camera.

http://ppt.cc/NYC1

As the picture, there are two gnome-terminal left side and the GIMP at right.
There is a image in the center, its YouTube (in chromium) that was playing at behind window.

Why the flash will jump out to the flash player & browser ?

Actually, it will overlap any program at my desktop.
From my observation, it will effect any "BLACK area".

BTW, I can not use any programe to screenshot this problem. If I do, it will grab a normal screen for me.
So I just can use camera to capture it.

any ideas ?

Thanks.

Hi chy168,

I can confirm the same problem on my machine.

I tried to emerge two different version of chromium and flash:

Code: Select all

www-plugins/adobe-flash 10.2.159.1 && 10.3.181.14-r1
www-client/chromium 11.0.696.71 && 11.0.696.68
Always the same issue.

Hi sham,

Do you install "NetworkManager" to connect network ?

Recently, I found its notification window also overlap my menubar with blank.
It won't repaint the area what the notification shown till I move some window to there.

I might guess it's not chromium or flash problem. Maybe a low level library bug ?

BTW, if the problem shows, I use ctrl + alt + 1 to switch between console and window.
It will become clear screen TEMPORARY. :(

Any others meet this issue or suggestion ?

I'm having the same problem but on firefox 3 and 4.
Removing and installing adobe-flash helped a bit, it's not so obvious and annoying but the problems still appears from time to time in a more subtle way.

I can't capture the problem with screen capture apps as well.

Hi m4rc3,

Is your screen the same like me ?
I've tried to reinstall adobe-flash but in vain. :(

BTW, did you all use nVidia video chip ?

A few hours after i posted, the damn thing popped up again so I doubt it's either firefox or flash/java

I have an nvidia GeForce 8400M GT

I run xfce4 but the problem started for me when I tried awesome-wm for a bit.

x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-260.19.36

I guess that the problem went away when I tried re-installing adobe-flash because I had already switched from console to X coz when I powered up the machine today the problem was still there.

I always test with google analytics since everytime I try to change the days for the report, the calendar applet stays on my screen forever.

Confirm the problem on nvidia GT320M with chromium 11.0.696.68 and adobe-flash 10.2.159.1 on awesome wm. Any black areas are problematic, even black text.

Flash (10.3) looked funny on my Firefox 4/5, but updating nspluginwrapper to 1.4 seems to have fixed it.

I had the problem on my PC (nvidia blob) for sure, I can't remember if I experienced it on my laptop (Intel graphics).

Doesn't Chromium have built-in Flash? In that case updating nspluginwrapper won't help much I suppose. Or maybe that's just Google's Chrome builds.

As recommend in the German Forum, try to disable vdpau. This fixed the issue for me.

Code: Select all

www-plugins/adobe-flash
     Available versions:  10.2.159.1!m!s (~)10.2.159.1_p201011173!m!s 10.3.181.14-r1!m!s {+32bit +64bit bindist kde multilib vdpau}
     Installed versions:  10.3.181.14-r1!m!s(12:25:12 06.06.2011)(-kde -vdpau)
     Homepage:            http://www.adobe.com/flashplayer
     Description:         Adobe Flash Player
