Are you sure you've built the kdelibs from the pertty ebuilds? Do an 'emerge -pv kdelibs', and see if you are pulling portage's, or StifflerStealth's.
You were right, i was pulling it out of portage and not the overlay ;)

But here's the error i get when i to try to compile it from the overlay ...

Hey, he is 100% right.

It is an easter egg, a reward for those who actually read the emerge code.

And as he said, it should stay in honor of those people who really did something for gentoo. ;)

What do you gain by throwing it out?

Re: oooh nvidia

Ok so yeah. I accept that nvidia's a royal pain to get working even with 'official' sources. I had nitro-sources installed before hand (worked prity good btw). I noticed a small glitch that may or may not having anything to do with the beyoned sources. For some reason nvidia insits/demands to ...

Hm, did you follow exact steps from Gentoo Handbook?

It says:
Default: Setting up GRUB using grub-install

To install GRUB you will need to issue the grub-install command. However, grub-install won't work off-the-shelf since we are inside a chrooted environment. We need to create /etc/mtab which ...

Hi.

What are your system specs? Post the output of cat /proc/cpuinfo .
Are you sure that you're not creating code that cannot run on your processor? Something like using -march=i686 on an Athlon or -march=pentium4 in a pentium mobile ?
Yeah, but he said that LILO works for hi so it probably isn't ...

hm, looks ok......

type "df -h" and give us the output

also verify that the splash image for grub exists (/boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz)

edit: shouldn't this part:

Code: Select all

splashimage=(hd0,0)/boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz

be like this?

Code: Select all

splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz

Yes, listen to Ctrl+Alt+Del.....

It would also be much slower than using a native linux filesystem.

And besides, what's the point of doing that? Then you'd have several gigabytes of unusable linux programs and libraries that can be seen from windows. I see no point in that :)

Really? I will research that issue, it should not look like that.

you can change it manually to 64 via that file, it should work.

I will double check the kernel config to make sure it is configuring the right option.

I don't know about before, but the stage 3 installation tarball is the default method of installing gentoo, which means that you download a tarball with precompiled basic programs in it (gcc, bash shell, tar.....) which you unpack on your hard drive and it is a base for installing new programs later ...

Okay, if hda1 is your /boot partition and hda3 is your / (root) partition, then the lines concerning the kernel booting in your grub.conf should look similar to this:

root (hd0,0)
