Post by d1sturbanc3 » Tue Feb 14, 2006 5:46 am

I did a search and only could find firefox 1.07. Is there a way I can get firefox 1.5 or the latest version? How do emerge it or search for it? Thank you

Code: Select all

echo "www-client/mozilla-firefox ~x86" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
emerge -av mozilla-firefox
Replace, ~x86 with whatever arch you are on. (~amd64, etc.)
meow.

I'm getting

Code: Select all

localhost ~ # emerge -av mozilla-firefox

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies /
!!! All ebuilds that could satisfy ">=dev-libs/nss-3.10" have been masked.
!!! One of the following masked packages is required to complete your request:
- dev-libs/nss-3.11 (masked by: ~x86 keyword)
- dev-libs/nss-3.11-r1 (masked by: ~x86 keyword)

For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man page or
section 2.2 "Software Availability" in the Gentoo Handbook.
!!! (dependency required by "www-client/mozilla-firefox-1.5.0.1-r1" [ebuild])

I don't understand the message. Someone help?

The dependency is also masked ... unmask it in the same way that unmasking firefox

Add to the package.keywords

Code: Select all

echo "dev-libs/nss ~x86" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords

I´m not quite sure, but the stable Firefox (1.0.7) creates this entry in /usr/bin ...

You should search for this file
Use find or locate

My version of firefox creates the binary in /usr/bin/firefox. If you need to verify where the executable for a package is run this:

Code: Select all

equery f mozilla-firefox | grep /usr/bin
Also, firefox should create an entry in KDE at KMenu->Internet->Firefox.

I've done it yesterday, in fact, my whole system is based on ~x86 and it works fine.

So I'd say- go for it :)
