Fixed

I've fixed it by changing my CHOST according to this page to safe values as indicated here.

Code: Select all

CHOST="i586-pc-linux-gnu"
CFLAGS="-march=c3 -O2"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"
Silly me.

[solved] glibc upgrade (2.5-r4 -> 2.6.1) on VIA C3 won't

For about two or three weeks I've been getting the following error on my VIA C3 based server when trying to upgrade glibc:
(apologies for the horrible layout...) CPP='i686-pc-linux-gnu-gcc -E -x c-header' /var/tmp/portage/sys-libs/glibc-2.6.1/work/build-default-i686-pc-linux-gnu-nptl/elf/ld-linux.so ...

I upgrade mediwiki from 1.6.8 to 1.7.1 today using the command: webapp-config -U mediawiki 1.7.1 -d w Now when I try to run the update.php script or browse to server/w, I get: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or '}' in /var/www/localhost ...

Thanks for your replies, people!
You've given me enough to think about, and I'll investigate some more before I'll actually move the server system.

mdadm: /dev/hdxx has wrong uuid.

I've followed this tutorial (and several others), but I keep getting:

Code: Select all

mdadm: /dev/hd[a,b][1,2,5,6,7] has wrong uuid.
mdadm: cannot open /dev/hd[a,b][1,2,5,6,7]: Device or resource busy
With the exact same /etc/mdadm.conf file it works perfectly with the livecd.

Complete server backup without downtime. Possible?

Here's a somewhat open question.
For about a year or so, I've been running a Gentoo server, and very happily so, despite the fact that it's a Pentium II system.
Last week, I have received a very nice new box, and I am planning to transplant my carefully crafted setup to it relatively soon. It got me ...

Just for grins, could you do: cd /var/db/pkg
grep -R "php-5\*" * and see whether all occurrences of php-5* have valid operators in your database? I don't know if the portage db functions look in there for dependencies.
Here's my output: dev-php5/pecl-zip-1.0/DEPEND: dev-libs/zziplib =dev-lang/php ...

Do either of these appear in your /var/log/emerge.log ?

FWIW, the diagnostic appears to be issued from within /usr/lib/portage/pym/portage_dep.py.
No, only on stdout.

Speedtouch 510 throws login dialog at me from WAN side

I am trying to run a server behind a (Thomson) Speedtouch 510 modem/router (PPPoA, Port forwarding) which works fairly well, but when browsing the websites from the WAN side, every so often I get the modem's login dialog instead of the requested page, and I have to wait a few minutes before it works ...

# CONFIG_PM_DEBUG is not set
