emerge powerdevil-4.8.2 pulls kdelibs-4.8.3 [SOLVED]

Yes I think I have ~x86 keyword always accepted is my make.conf.
I want to merge 4.8.2 because I don't want to compile kdelibs again. I have compiled the 4.8.2 version not a long ago. I have a slow machine so cimpiling all that stuff takes great time.

When I upgrade kde packages, I do not upgrade them all. Only the one I use frequently. That's why you see that some of packages are 4.7.2, 4.8.0, ...
I never perform emerge -uv world because it takes too much time.

emerge powerdevil-4.8.2 pulls kdelibs-4.8.3 and others

Hi,

I wanted to upgrade my powerdevil package to version 4.8.2. My system runs 4.8.2 kde packages. However, emerge wants 4.8.3 packages to install powerdevil 4.8.2:

emerge -av =powerdevil-4.8.2

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

option for driver sony-laptop missing [SOLVED]

Hi everybody,

I have just downloaded the latest gentoo-sources-3.2.0 and I cannot find the option to check for the sony-laptop driver.
I can find it by performing a search using the "/" command in "make menuconfig". It says it is located in
device drivers -> X86 platform specific drivers

but when ...

SOLVED. Don't know how. Just rebooted. You're right, ALT+Fn works from VT. CTRL+ALT+Fn from X works again (and no switch with ALT+Fn from X).

Switching VT uses ALT+Fn instead of CTRL+ALT+Fn

Hi everybody,

Since I updated my system (emerge system) recently and rebooted, the VT switching is performed using ALT+Fn keys.
Example : ALT+F4 switches to VT 4. This is annoying as ALT+Left switches to previous VT (this used to be bound to previous URL in browsers).
This used to be CTRL+ALT+Fn ...

Lost all kde menu entries

Hi All,

I noticed recently that I lost all my kde menu entries. I just have now the favorites, the run command and the leave special entries.
I did not do anything than trying to play with vmware (the one I downloaded from the website).

Anyway is there a way to restore them ?

Thanks

Hey I forgot one : PyQt !!!!!!!
This is hell this package makes a python interface of every Qt header ! Needed for PyKDE, which is needed for plasma scripts. So for every KDE upgrade you may need to rebuild Qt and PyQt

Today I wanted to emerge Inkscape version 0.47. Everything went fine until the LAST linking of the inkscape binary. This is an issue of my system complaining about missing symbols of libxcb (I did not upgrade all my libs after upgrading to the new libxcb, so some libs used by Inkscape are ...

What are the packages you HATE to emerge and WHY ?

Hi all,

I'm using gentoo for 5 years now and like it a lot. However when it comes to emerge (install/upgrade) some packages, I'm not very happy and whish there exists "binary" versions that install immediately.

So I wonder if some of you also hate emerging some packages and why ?

Let's start with ...

OK here is how I solved the problem :

1. buy an empty CD
2. burn the minimal gentoo install iso
3. boot on CD and mount your hard drive root partition somewhere
4. chroot to that directory
6. load your profile : source /etc/profile
5. downgrade udev to version 146-r1

seems like there is a problem ...
