afaik it's simply not possible... they did something pretty wierd with their alsa calls I guess

there are some idiots that route alsa to pulseaudio and then pulseaudio to jack to make their flash work :D

ignore the alsa errors, they don't matter much
don't know exactly what do to about the firewire driver error

You can't make firewire audio devices work with pure alsa, you need to use jack and route alsa audio to jack.

So what you need is this:
the FFADO drivers for JACK
the jack plugin for alsa
an .asoundrc; here's mine:

pcm.!default {
type plug
slave { pcm "jack" }
}

pcm.jack {
type jack
playback ...

I want to write an application where you select a keyboard device connected to your computer and then have it generate midi-events -this should work independently of any virtual terminal/X server, so that it'll always work, whatever you're currently doing with the other keyboard.

Lyx suddenly started segfaulting

This is the output of lyx-9999 of the soor overlay, but the same thing happens with any version... I tried using paludis' reconcilio (revdep-rebuild equivalent) but nothing turns up :/

seems to be an alsa prob or something, flash blocks the sound device... i don't have the esd use flag set

i don't have the same soundcard but this isn't a hardware prob I'd say...

edit: i'm using epiphany though, gnome 2.22

hal/dbus/udev not recognising my dvd drive

somehow there's no hal process that should poll for the dvd drive, so that any kind of automount daemon ala gnome-volume-manager or ivman isn't responding when i insert a dvd... what could be the problem here?
usb disks mount just fine with gnome-volume-manager when i insert those, and manually ...
