compiz<->Xgl compatibility seems to have been broken by the recent glproto update to 1.4.8.

Try the following:

1) emerge =glproto-1.4.7
2) emerge xgl

In other words: downgrade glproto and re-emerge Xgl. Please let me know if this worked for you, it has for me.

In my case, the error was: "firegl_public.c:228: error: expected ')' before string constant". Line 228 in firegl_public.c is "MODULE_PARM(firegl, "s");"

I am using ati-drivers with 2.6.17-rc1-no2. It is quite simple, just comment out the offending line in the fglrx sources, this will fix the error with building the DRM-module. Then, add CONFIG_OBSOLETE_INTERMODULE=y to your .config and intermodule.o to obj-y in /usr/src/linux/kernel/Makefile, then ...

i had the same problem when downloading certain files. I did not do further investigation why proper decoding failed; i just switched from UULib to internal in the klibido decoding settings. The decoded files have proper sizes now. Perhaps this will help you, too.
