Some of you might think this is fan talk, well,it is! Gentoo and its community should be proud of this OS.Before Linux all I knew was how to screw up

Thanks to all the devs for you`re hard work keeping this unique distro going. (I cant imagine switching to another)
Thanks to the community and this forum.(Even the whiny ones! they keep the devs on there toes) I would be lost with out it.lol |
I recently posted this in the Why I don`t care if you drop recommendation of Gentoo thread.I have realized it is probably better here.
I apologize to those that might of thought it was out of place.I really just wanted to express my gratitude. |

Yea, it is apparent that the community gets pretty heated up about that topic. I have never really seen so much dedication and passion for distro as this. |

A little message to thanks all the people who are involved into Gentoo !
I just finished with installing Gentoo 2007.0 and everything works like a charm. I follow the handbook, find all documentation on the howto or gentoo wikipedia and it works. I am very happy of having a linux tailored to my needs (nothing in excess and nothing missing).
My configuration is a ASUS P5LD2-SE,, LVM2, KDE, sound card Edirol UA25, video card Nvidia 8800 GTS and Brother HL5150D.
The only thing with which i had to struggle was the fonts in KDE : by default they look ugly on my computer, so i use the fonts i have on a windows system and i had to modifiy /etc/fonts/local.conf to tell it what kind of font using for serif, sans-serif and mono.
A happy gentoo user |

I just wanted to take a minute to thank all of the gentoo developers, admins, and others that make gentoo "happen". I have been using Linux for many years now since Linux 2.2 and have been through many Linux distros through the years as well as open/freebsd and I now exclusively use Gentoo for my servers and workstations (ok, I run xubuntu on the wifes computer).
ALSO, a big thanks to the folks that answer the posts in the forums. I tried many forums over the years and I can honestly say that the gentoo forums rock. The folks are very helpful here. One complaint I have is that the "quick search" sucks (it removes terms i search for sometimes and doesnt allow me to quote certain things I want to search for), but I can live with that.
Heres to many more years of Gentoo!

|
|
hi,
I've been a gentoo user for about a year and today I realized why I really like gentoo.
It's not the ability to compile everything from source, it's not portage in general, it's not the tight control gentoo gives you over your system (although I can appreciate all of these points from a technical perspective).
It's the documentation and the community around it: the official handbook, the mailing lists, these forums, gentoo-wiki.com, etc.
I am constantly amazed how easy it is to find the solutions to my problems.
So easy in fact, that I never had the need to register to these forums to ask any question (this is my first post). All information I ever needed was already out there.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to this condition. Please keep up the good work!

Gentoo has turned me into an admin (from a scientific personnel maybe, and I've still not forgotten physics... maybe).
All thanks a Gentoo. Something which admins can use as a stable and productive desktop with the fun of leaning the internals too. _________________ My blog |

All,
I just wanted to take a moment to thank you all for all the hard work.
I am having alot of fun with Gentoo thus far.
Many times in these forums people simply come with problems and don't take a moment to simply appreciate everything that has been done.
So...on that note, i just wanted to say thanks, and if anyone out there shares this opinion and has enjoyed the community and its support, please drop a note of appreciation to everyone behind it.
Thanks again,
Yosef Sheva Porat |

We enjoy it too which is why we put the effort in.
Moved from Gentoo Forums Feedback to Gentoo Chat as it fits better here. _________________ Search | Read | Answer | Report | Strip |

Yeah although I think I have shared my praise before it has probably been too long. Thanks to everyone who makes gentoo the greatest, imho, distro available for linux. I have come a long way utilizing the great support and documentation and power of gentoo from a simple laptop with gnome five years ago to a powerful desktop with a fileserver, printrserver, webserver, and of course basically everything else you could want out of a desktop (video editing, music play and edit, graphics editing, super fast internet prowler, etc...)
