Should I try it out? Or wait until it is unmasked? |

By the look of the release notes, 0.19 is going to provide some much needed utilities and improvements, especially tuning signals and switching between tuner cards.
How long between release from the official CVS source of a program and the release of an ebuild? |

mythtv-0.19.ebuild is in portage now. Unmask it to emerge it. |

the latest version that I can see when trying to emerge mythtv is 0.18.2.
I can see that the ebuild exists in /usr/porteage/media-tv/mythtv and I have added media-tv/mythtv ~x86 in /etc/portage/package.keywords.
Have I forgot something?

I believe it's hard masked. Just add it to /etc/portage/package.unmask and you should be set. |

Well I dived right in there before I read your post and it seems to be working OK. Only problem I had was that I needed qt to be compiled with opengl support, even though I'm emerging myth with no opengl support. Once I recompiled qt myth emerged fine. |

Can't get to teh MythTV website from here but I remember reading on the changelog that you should use nVidia 7676 (or something like that) with the version of Myth as the newer nVidia binary's don't like opengl or something like that... of course if your not using nVidia then sorry can't help...

Tim

Thanks for the reply. I tried updating my nvidia drivers but to no avail. Same probelm occurs when the frontend is on a nvidia or radeon system.
They say 'patience is a virtue' and I should apply that maxim to software upgrades really. |

Hi. Yes I've rerun setup several times. Everything seems to check out. Rescanned the channels and they all came up so I think the card still works. Created new video sources and connections etc. I have googled for the error message I get and I seem to be the only person on the planet who has had this problem. Which is nice .[/quote] |

This is great. The front end that I sometimes run on my computer now has smooth video playback.
Edit: I got this when trying to install mythweb. |

I had the same problem. I'm now using the "old" /etc/init.d/mythbackend-file (the one provided by myth-0.18 ), and everything is working again (I think it's a permission problem). |

Great for two reasons.
a) Misery loves company.
b) I've got a place to start trying to fix it. Will look at the mythbackend file tonight.

what the hell did they do to MythTV??? How can this be called a "stable" release from them???
With 0.19 I can't connect to MySQL no matter what. I've wiped it clean off my system and restarted it and it STILL can't connect to MySQL. 0.18 works just fine.
ARGH I wish they would have done more testing before they released it. I was hoping to enjoy a new release with new features, but it looks like I'll be waiting for -r1 at least.
edit: ok now fixed all my problems but the one u guys are having.
looking for a REAL solution instead of using the old file (which is getting more tempting every minute)

I upgraded from 0.18.1 via 0.19_pre8642 to 0.19 without any problems. Also myth music and myth video are working. Maybe the upgrade path via the pre8642 version helped, or I have a very different system than you guys. I am using a PVR350 card with ivtv-0.4.2. Kernel 2.6.13-gentoo-r3 i686 Pentium III. |

feld,
Can you share what you did to fix your problem? As phsdv mentioned, I had no problems myself going from 0.18.1 to the prerelease. I built a new system and went with a fresh Gentoo install. I can't seem to get MythTV to connect to mysql either. At least that appears to be possibly what's happening.
Thanks. _________________ Vim has excellent syntax highlighting for configuration files: emerge gentoo-syntax

It hasn't been a good 24 hours.
Basically, I had backed up my /var/lib/mysql to /var/lib/mysqlbak. I reinstalled mysql a billion times, trying so hard to get things to work. In this process I cleaned out mysql EVERY time... but still had problems connecting, or the sock, or some database error (permissions or otherwise). I played with permissions, I did everything in the book....
I got lucky, I think, when I landed on the last mysql version. I decided at that time "i'm lazy, let's not cp over the backup to the mysql dir, let's just symlink to mysqlbak" and guess what -- it mysteriously started working. So I'm leaving it that way lol
Good luck!!! It's a fight but you'll be relieved when you fix it. Don't reinstall -- I recommend working to fix it... it might be an enriching experience!

For the record, I think the changelog says uses 7676 or lower. So depending on how much you "updated" your drivers, you might have made the problem worse (at least on your nvidia system). I use the stable 6629 and everything works fine on 2.6.15 with an HD3000 and mythtv 0.18.1. Of course stuff like this should only affect the frontend system. The fact that it doesn't work on radeon either still suspect of course, and maybe something is wrong with the backend. Do you have a proper starting channel selected for your input source? Sometimes if you don't have one set right it won't work if you try to watch even for the first time. |

I unmasked it and just did a regular emerge.
Everything upgraded very painlessly.
I run Mythtv on a Shuttle box so my setup is not that different from the norm. _________________ who | grep -i blonde | talk; cd ~; wine; talk; touch; unzip; touch; strip; gasp; finger; mount; fsck; more; yes; gasp; umount; make clean; sleep

Hi RoundsToZero.
Thanks for the reply. I did indeed misinterpret the nvida instructions and updated to the latest version. I too have found out though that the probelm lies in the /etc/init.d/mythbackend script. If I start /usr/bin/mythbackend directly then everything works fine. I don't want to reinstall 0.18 but if someone could post the mythbackend script from that version, which seems to work for people, I can look at it and see what changes might have caused the problem.
While I'm here I should say that 0.19 is the bee's knees. The channel scanning is a dream.
