Save to "kill -9" emerge? [solved]

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

Save to "kill -9" emerge? [solved]

I executed "emerge -e world" to compile everything with "-march=native". But, I had to execute "kill -9" on emerge in order to execute "pump emerge -e world". Do I have to consider anything (e.g. some files left behind from the first emerge)?

The only worry is if any emerge got to the actual merge and installing things from the sandbox... If none got that far there's nothing to worry about, other than possibly clearing the portage TMPDIR, which it will do automatically anyway upon next merge of the package.

I don't think I'll ever understand how impatient people are and reach for the -9 when killing a process - the "shoot first, ask questions later" mantra. Always SIGINT or SIGTERM first unless the process is causing harm (like an rm -rf or running a virus or other harmful software). I think this is documented in a lot of old unix sysadmin manuals but with today's fast world nobody cares... Then again proper cleanup handlers also are a rare creature as well...
