Warcraft 3 - wine - no cd is found ;(

  • Quote

Post by LoRd-niKon » Wed Oct 08, 2003 4:46 pm

I tried to patch wc3 to 1.12 for being sure what version i do have - but all i get is a black screen and i have to kill my x (ctrl+alt+backspc).

I copied a prepatached and cracked version to my machine but still no cd is found.
I dunno what nocd crack to install cause i dunno my version.

I have the original WC3 TFT CD inserted, but when starting the game it shows me that splash screen but theres no access to the disk (so it cannot find the cdrom at all) - of course i mounted it and i also have jolietz extensions switched on in kernel.

HELP PLEASE

Check the title of the CD.
After that edit the config file of wine ( ~/.wine/config )
Somewhere in the file is this entry:
[Drive E]
"Path"="/media/cdrom"
"Label"="cdrom"
"Type"="cdrom"
"FS"="win95"
;"Device"="/dev/cdrom"

Note that E is in MY config file, in your it is most likely different.
/media/cdrom is the mountpoint..

You see the 'Label' here is "cdrom"
Change it to the title of the cdrom.
This way the cd will be detected (note I haven't tested it with this game but it woked with other games that could not detect the cdrom automaticly.

Okay i changed that, btw. how do i find out a cdroms label in gentoo???

I get this error in terminal together with the no cd found in X:

luci@lu_cifer Warcraft III $ ./start
./start: line 3: pushd: /home/luci/.wine/fake_win/Program: No such file or directory
./start: line 5: popd: directory stack empty

Well WC3 is in Program Files - does it have problems with the " "?
Where can i edit that path?

it wasn't that difficult. altough I dont have 1.12 installed because I haven't found the no-cd patch for it..

http://appdb.winehq.com/noteview.php?no ... ionId=1177

Note: I did not follow that instructions to install it and make it run, but I did something very similar..

I just re-read your post again... it seems that you:
- installed W3
- pached to 1.12
- installed a No-cd exe file

Well, that is the correct order, but since you patched 1.12 then your version is that '1.12'. There are no no-cd up to now that work with the 1.12 version.... It will never find the disk, since wine does not have support for the security thing that blizzard uses with their disks.

Using gnome, when you mount your cdrom the cdrom icon will appear on the screen. The title below the icon is the title of the cdrom.
Otherwise, I wouldn't know. perhaps you can check it on windows.

Why do you run ./start?

You are using winex right? Shouldn't you do
winex ./start

But I don't know that error. I suggest you checht the transgamign site and look in the forums for warcraft3. Others may have possibly had the same error.

as root edit /etc/fstab ad 'user' to the options part for your cdrom and all else that should be mounted by non-root users.

For wine, I would suggest still checking the transgaming forum. You could check for known errors at least. And if they have perhaps there is a simple fix that works for wine as well.

But since I don't have Warcraft3 I can't give you specific hints to get the game running.

I'm using:

Code: Select all

bash-2.05b$ emerge -p wine

*** You are not in the portage group. You may experience cache problems
*** due to permissions preventing the creation of the on-disk cache.
*** Please add this user to the portage group if you wish to use portage.

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild   R   ] app-emulation/wine-20030813

bash-2.05b$
and it works great, except I cant play the single player capaigns :cry:
