[Solved] Firefox latest version?

  • Quote

Post by mark2 » Mon Aug 06, 2012 5:06 pm

I tried to emerge Firefox to the latest version, which I see is 14.0.1, but I still only get version 10.0.5. Is there a way to accomplish this without downloading a tarball, but let portage do it?

Thanks,
~Mark

Did you update the portage tree?

It isn't marked stable yet, so you'll have to unmask it (add the line "www-client/firefox" to /etc/portage/package.keywords).

Code: Select all

eix firefox
will show you that the latest "stable" version is 10.0.6 (maybe in your case 10.0.5 if you have not updated the portage tree for quite a while) and the latest "testing" version is 14.0.1 (or maybe somewhat older if you have not updated the portage tree for quite a while). So you have to unmask the latest "testing" version if you want it:

Code: Select all

echo www-client/firefox >>/etc/portage/package.accept_keywords
Maybe afterwards, portage will tell you that you have to unmask some other "testing" versions, too.

Ok, I just updated the portage tree. When I tried:

Code: Select all

eix firefox
it told me that eix was not a valid command.

I proceeded with:

Code: Select all

echo www-client/firefox >>/etc/portage/package.accept_keywords
and then did emerge firefox. It is emerging Firefox 14.0.1.
From past experience, I expect it will take quite some time to complete. And as I am home on my lunch hour and have to go back to work in a few minutes, I will post back results this evening.

Many thanks, guys, for all your help.

~Mark
Thanks,
Mark

eix is not a part of portage, it is a separate package

Ok, I see.

On the plus side, Firefox upgraded to version 14.01, and it looks good. So thanks again to everyone. This is one great forum.

Best regards,
~Mark
Thanks,
