No sound - ATI 5870 HDMI

Hi there,

I've just installed gentoo on my HTPC and I don't have any sound.
Actually, my PC is connected to my HDTV through a HDMI cable.

Into my kernel, I have set as a module, HDA Intel etc... and I've selected Realtek + ATI HDMI.

My user is part of the group audio, and I've check the sound with alsamixer to be sure it wasn't mute. (I set almost everything at 100% but btw, PCM doesn't have any MM or OO value, but it might not be relevant)

However I do have sound if I'm using the regular output with my headset.

Any idea ?

Which ATI driver are you running? Open source or proprietary?

HDMI audio is rather flakey in the open source driver, though best in the latest version.

Is sound being sent to hdmi or the motherboard chipset? With alsa list playback devices with

Code: Select all

aplay -l

You may need to try each sub-device. And play safe with music tracks sampled at 44.1 or 48kHz (because my hdmi rejects others). The bitrate is different and doesn't matter.
