[solved] xterm & world update

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

[solved] xterm & world update

  • Quote

Post by mitsakas » Mon Dec 14, 2009 3:59 pm

Code: Select all

emerge -pvuDN world
gives:

Code: Select all

Calculating dependencies... done!

Total: 0 packages, Size of downloads: 0 kB
but xterm needs upgrade:

Code: Select all

emerge -pv xterm
gives:

Code: Select all

[ebuild     U ] x11-terms/xterm-250 [243]
xterm is not the world file but xorg-server is, on which xinit depends, on which xterm depends

Why does this happen?

what version of xinit are you using ? i´m asking because minimal USE is set now by default which will drop the xterm dep.
anyways, what does a emerge -upDv --with-bdeps=y @world tell you ?

cheers

Indeed minimal flag is on:

Code: Select all

eix xinit

Code: Select all

[I] x11-apps/xinit
     Available versions:  1.0.8-r10 1.2.0-r3 {consolekit debug minimal pam}
     Installed versions: 1.2.0-r3(04:00:56 μμ 11/12/2009)(minimal pam -debug)
     Homepage:            http://xorg.freedesktop.org/
     Description:         X Window System initializer
but

Code: Select all

emerge -upDv --with-bdeps=y world
gives:

Code: Select all

[ebuild     U ] dev-python/pycxx-6.1.1 [6.1.0] USE="-doc -examples" 146 kB
[ebuild     U ] dev-python/cython-0.11.3 [0.11.2] USE="-doc -examples" 3,227 kB
[ebuild     U ] app-text/docbook-xsl-stylesheets-1.75.2 [1.73.2] 1,507 kB
[ebuild  NS   ] app-text/docbook-xml-dtd-4.5 [4.4-r1] 97 kB
[ebuild     U ] dev-java/gjdoc-0.7.9-r2 [0.7.9-r1] USE="-source -xmldoclet" 0 kB
[ebuild     U ] x11-proto/xf86bigfontproto-1.2.0 [1.1.2] 49 kB
[ebuild     U ] x11-misc/xorg-cf-files-1.0.3 [1.0.2] 335 kB
[ebuild     U ] app-arch/cabextract-1.2-r1 [1.2] USE="-extra-tools%" 0 kB
[ebuild     U ] dev-python/reportlab-2.3-r1 [2.1] USE="-doc -examples -test%" 1,814 kB
with no xterm

Indeed minimal flag is on:
then it is quite clear i think, from the latest xinit ebuild :

Code: Select all

DEPEND="${RDEPEND}"
PDEPEND="x11-apps/xrdb
	!minimal? (
		x11-apps/xclock
		x11-apps/xsm
		x11-terms/xterm
		x11-wm/twm
	)
in case minimal is set you don´t get this four apps as a dep anymore.

if you really want xterm add it to the world file (or maybe regenworld will pick it up for you) ... or just unset the minimal use flag ;-)

cheers

Ok, that explains why --depclean just unmerged

x11-apps/xclock
x11-apps/xsm
x11-terms/xterm
x11-wm/twm

on my system.
Bye bye twm, I'll miss, you little buddy.
regards
