java help needed [SOLVED]

  • Quote

Post by Zeerak » Thu Dec 10, 2009 1:17 am

Hey,

I can't seem to get Java working in opera 10.10 or in konquerer. Preferably it is to work in both browser but yeah. One will do.

In opera:about it yields: Java No Java Runtime Environment installed
and in konquerer it claims that java is installed and working but, it's not working. At least not for what I need. And I can't seem to get it to work.

Code: Select all

qlist -Iv java
dev-java/java-config-2.1.9-r1
dev-java/java-config-wrapper-0.16
dev-java/sun-jdk-1.6.0.17
Having the Jre installed doesn't seem to do any difference, and while supposedly opera and konquerer aren't using the pluging, i did emerge with the plugin flag.

Let me know what you need and I'll be sure to provide the info :-)

The way Gentoo treats Java at the moment is to letting user define system wide or per use.

An example some people have problems with frostwire due to java not being defined.

I'll assume in Opera you've set the java path to

Code: Select all

/opt/sun-jdk-1.6.0.17/jre/lib/amd64
under preferences -> content -> java.

After that you will need to do a small symlink.

Code: Select all

cd /opt/sun-jdk-1.6.0.17/jre/lib/amd64/
and then

Code: Select all

ln -s server/libjvm.so .
Then java applets should be working, such as http://www.opera.com/media/applets/clock/. I don't remember if the browser needs a restart.

That's a bad example.

On x86, I'm using /etc/java-config-2/current-system-vm/jre/lib/i386/
- it needs no other tweaks and in-browser check accepts it.

Unless there's really a reason for that symlink.

This community ROCKS!

I wasn't able to find anything on google (or any other search engine) explaining how to do it, then I post and wait a few days, and BAM!, you guys come in and make it work! :D

VoidMage, what you suggested is a valid java path (according to opera) but it disabled java support when trying to use it.

Ken69267, yours worked, It seems the symlink was the only thing that was missing. :-)

On an endnote: WOOOOOOT! Internet banking, here I come :p

Guys, things changed in 10.53... :( Now java should be loaded as regular plugin. And it loads (at least this says a list of plugins in opera) but it does not work...
