Iscan issues with Epson 4180

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

Iscan issues with Epson 4180

I am trying to get Iscan to work. From watching the output of the build I assume the ebuild brings in the iscan-plugin packages which means there should be little messing about.

However, Iscan refuses to work. It keeps reporting nothing was found.

lsusb shows the scanner to be there, sane-find-scanner see's it, scanimage can't see it and neither can xsane.

Has anybody got experience of getting iscan to work?

Funnily enough I have tonight finally got that scanner working natively under Linux after having it since new 4-5 years ago!

Unfortunately you need to install proprietary libraries from http://www.avasys.jp/lx-bin2/linux_e/scan/DL1.do after filling in their "form for download"

From my experience the tar.gz does not work as it does not contain or build the firmware libraries libesint43.so.*

So I downloaded the ubuntu packages which were 2 RPMs (!)

I had to extract the files in my root

Suddenly isane finally worked after hours trying all the paths open through portage and a few previous failed episodes

If you do want to build the source with gcc 4.4.1, file pisa_tool.h needs to be patched to delete the first word "static".

Not nice but one less reason to fire up a Windoze VM

I just bought an Epson Perfection V30. I already had sane installed for my old scanner, but emerging media-gfx/iscan-plugin-gt-f720 was all that I needed to do to get my new scanner working with it.
Ryzen 3700X, Asus Prime X570-Pro, 64 GB DDR4 3200, GeForce GTX 1660 Super
openrc-0.17, ~vanilla-sources, ~nvidia-drivers, ~gcc

This worked for me too - thankyou.
