Hello.
I'm installing gentoo on Acer as3810tg notebook with Atheros ar8131 ethernet controller.
I downloaded install-amd64-minimal-20090903.iso.
After booting i got this prompt

Code: Select all

livecd#
Ifconfig:
lo
That's all.
I do:
modprobe atl1e
But ifconfig eth0:
error fetching interface information: Device not found
Please, help.

Try downloading the System Rescue CD and installing gentoo from that. It provides a more full featured environment, and better device auto detection and configuration. The system rescue CD is based on gentoo.

Try

Code: Select all

modprobe atl1e
modprobe may not be needed with the sysresccd.
Then with either of the aforementioned cd's you will want to run

Code: Select all

net-setup eth0
at the prompt.
You need to look at the gentoo handbook for the architecture you are installing on and follow it closely. This is a manual install in a command line interface.
With sysresccd you can go further and run startx to get a GUI. In the GUI you can have a browser window with the handbook in it and a terminal window open side by side and use copy and paste vice typing.
